Flexible Circuit Board Repairing• Keep the temperature of the soldering iron around 270˚C during
repairing.• Do not touch the soldering iron on the same conductor of the

NOTES ON HANDLING THE OPTICAL PICK-UP BLOCKOR BASE UNITThe laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electrostaticbreakdown because of the potential difference generated by thecharged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body.During repair, pay attention to electrostatic breakdown and also usethe procedure in the printed matter which is included in the repairparts.The flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled withcare.
NOTES ON LASER DIODE EMISSION CHECKThe laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused onthe disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical pick-up block. Therefore, when checking the laser diode emission,observe from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens.

About CD-Rs/CD-RWs and MP3 filesThis player can play CD-Rs/CD-RWs recorded in the CD-DA format* and MP3 files recorded in the CD-ROMformat, but playback capability may vary depending on thequality of the disc and the condition of the recordingdevice.* CD-DA is the abbreviation for Compact Disc Digital Audio. It is
a recording standard used for Audio CDs.

The Timer
Falling asleep to musicYou can set the player to turn offautomatically after 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and120 minutes, allowing you to fall asleepwhile listening to music.

1 Play the music source you want.
2 Hold down SLEEP until “60” flashes inthe display.
3 Press ./> or SLEEP repeatedlyto select the minutes until the playergoes off automatically.Each time you press > or SLEEP,the indication changes as follows:“60” t “90” t “120” t “OFF” t“10” t “20” t “30” t “60”…If you press ., the indicationchanges in reverse order.
If 4 seconds have passed after youpressed the button, the minutes in thedisplay are entered. While the sleeptimer is activated, “z” flashes in thedisplay.
When the preset time has passed, theplayer goes off automatically.
To check the time remaininguntil the player is turned offHold down SLEEP for about 2 seconds. Theremaining time is displayed for 4 seconds.

2 Connecting the TVTo use the VIDEO CD, connect the TVequipped with the video input jack inthe following way:1 Connect the supplied video cord to
the VIDEO OUT jack of the playerand the video input jack of the TV.

Changing the MW tuning intervalThe MW tuning interval is preset to 9 kHz atthe factory. Perform the following to changethe setting to 10 kHz step.1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly to select the
tuner function.2 While holding down BAND on the player,
press and hold x on the player for about 2seconds to change the setting to 10 kHzstep.
To set the tuning interval back to 9 kHz step,follow the same procedure again.After changing the tuning interval, you needto reset your MW preset radio stations.
5 Inserting batteries into the remote
Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries (notsupplied).
Replacing batteriesWith normal use, the batteries should last forabout six months. When the remote nolonger operates the player, replace all thebatteries with new ones.
6 Using the player on batteriesInsert eight R20 (size D) batteries (notsupplied) into the battery compartment.Before inserting the outer four batteries,close the inner lid as illustrated below.To use the player on batteries,disconnect the AC power cord from theplayer.
Replacing batteriesReplace the batteries when the OPR/BATTindicator dims or when the player stopsoperating. Replace all the batteries with newones. Before you replace the batteries, besure to take out the CD from the player.
NoteWhen you operate the player on batteries, youcannot turn on the player using theremote.
