ABOUT THE PROJECT TOPIC
Facebook is a social site which startedworking on February 4, 2004 by its young

producer Mark Zuckerberg. He designedFacebook in his room at US HarvardUniversity and started it as a social websitefor Harvard students. But very soon his site
was taken into consideration outside theuniversity and it became so popular that bythe end of the second week of its operation, over half of Harvard students registered inFacebook and used it as a way of contactingwith each other; and in a short period, millions of people became Facebook membersand founded a broad and influential network.
Although this social network paves the wayfor finding new friends or communicating withold friends, it is a site for exchanging viewsand ideas among the youths. The capabilitythat a youth can communicate with otheryouths in different countries has turned thesocial networks including Facebook into a sitefor introducing and discussing new ideas.
Actually with the spread of social networks, relations have become closer and wider thanthe past to the extent that the social siteshave turned into an inseparable part of ourlife and its positive and negative impactsaffect our life.
Some experts believe that with the help of
these sites, relations have entered a new
phase and people can become aware of each
other better and more quickly. But on the

other hand, some other experts are of the
opinion that the social sites, especially
Facebook have created many problems.
.
1.2 Effects of Facebook onTeenagers
Most of the teenagers dont realize thenegative impact ofFacebook on their life. And, the main reason is because they arealready addicted to it. And, this addiction canlead to several negative developments. Youwill find 7 negative effects of this socialnetworking site that should encourage you to
start avoiding it.
The first negative effect ofFacebook is that ateenage user starts losing interest in his orher surroundings. You would be addicted to

Facebook and the only thing you would beconcerned about will be your own world, which is inside Facebook.
The second negative effect is that your real-world social interaction will start diminishing.
There is no doubt that you are going to havehundreds offriends on Facebook, but withhow many of them would you be interactingout in the real world. As a human being, youare a social creature and you naturally requirereal-world social interaction. When you are
going to spend maximum of your time on theInternet, you are going to decrease yourcommunication and social skills.
Another negative impact will be on yourhealth. There is a very high chance thatexcessive use ofFacebook leads to the usersbecoming obese. You would be sitting most ofthe time in front of the computer, eating
snacks and without any physical activities. And, over a period of time you are going toaccumulate all the extra pounds.
Facebook is also going to minimize your studytime. Rather than spending your time onFacebook, you would better start browsingsome educational sites that relate to your
school course.
For Facebook users, family doesnt come first, but Facebook does. For them their online

friends are more important than their familymembers.
The sixth negative effect ofFacebook is that
your personal data becomes public on thissocial site, threatening your privacy. This isnot reasonable, unless you want to becontacted by hundreds of people that dontknow you.
The seventh negative effect ofFacebook isthat it increases the chances of onlineconflict. Facebook is populated with immatureindividuals who create bizarre statuses, upload awkward images and carry out absurdactions. And, this can lead to conflictsbetween people.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The study is to be limited in Jalandhar
city only because of limited time and
financial resources. So results of the
study may not be generalized forIndia as a whole.
The sample size is limited to 100
respondents, so complete knowledge
about subject is not possible.
Another factor could be the existence
of biasness in the respondents mind.
Many times these biasness have
greater bearing on the responses put
forward by respondents.
Human weaknesses such as in
attentiveness cannot be ignored.
-

Indifferent attitude : different people
have different attitude towards
