Usage of home grown scripts and/or manual execution of sequential
commands remain one of the most widely used ad-hoc cloning tools

HOW IS CLONETAB BUILT
Clonetab is built using Java platform.
Flex/Flash is used for the UI (User Interface)
It has got its own Oracle XE database repository (No
additional database license is required).
Clonetab can be accessed from most of the certified standard
browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome
and so on.
HOW DOES CLONETAB WORK?
We recommend Clonetab server to be installed on a
dedicated Linux server which can be a physical or virtual
machine. Clonetab has in built capability to connect to
remote servers using ssh.
Based on the DBA provided minimal information as to
source and target instances within your environment, the
Clone Engine connects to these instances and pulls all
the instance related information which will be stored in
its repository.
Clonetab offers very simple GUI interface for registering source,target instances and scheduling options based refresh and othertasks.
The sequence in which the DBAs have to complete the initial set upprocess to schedule tasks such as refresh, patching using Clonetab.

Protection:
Clonetab offers built-in protection for important
Volumes/instances, such as production instance, from being
accidentally refreshed.
VALIDATIONS
Before starting a task, Clonetab checks for requirements to execute the tasks, identifies the missing ones and notifies that information to the DBA teams. It doesn’t even start the task at that stage until all the validations are through.
It also provides validation option at the time of task submission and generates a user friendly report to show what failed and why.
After completion of tasks like refresh, Clonetab does the basic validation to make sure the task completed successfully. Validations include checks on service, check if the URL is accessible or not and so on.
NOTIFICATIONS
Clonetab offers automated notification mechanism
through which events such as successful completion of tasks,
failure and so on are communicated to the DBAs in the
mailing list.

SECURITY
The password wallet stores the passwords within theClonetab application which are either used by the clone-engine forexecution of scheduled tasks or generally stored for the benefit ofindividual DBA or DBA team as a whole.
All the passwords stored within the wallet are encrypted andsecure.
The user with password manager privilege can manage thepasswords for the entire DBA team while a user with ‘viewpassword’ privlege can view the DBA team passwords but can’tadd or edit them.
CENTRALIZED LOGS
Clonetab offers Centralized logs. All logs are available at one
place and can be browsed from Clonetab UI.
No need to log in to multiple servers to review the logs.
FLEXIBILITY
You can add remove the tasks from standard task list.
(e.g when you want to skip shutdown step since already the
instance is down, skip that task. You can skip few specific
scripts run for a refresh etc.)
