Dan Gilbert is Founder and Chairman of Quicken Loans Inc., the nation’s second largest mortgage lender. He is also Founder and Chairman of Rock Ventures LLC, the umbrella entity for his portfolio of business and real estate investments, and majority owner of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers. Rock Ventures and its more than 110 affiliated companies across the country employ more than 24,000 team members.

In 2013–2014, Detroit-based Quicken Loans closed $140 billion in home loan volume across all 50 states, and in 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, earned J.D. Power’s highest rating for customer satisfaction among all U.S. home loan lenders. Quicken Loans is No. 1 on Computerworld magazine’s “100 Best Places to Work in IT” and has been named one of FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” for 12 consecutive years.

Dan is also a shareholder in several sports-related consumer and technology businesses, including a leading wall graphics company (Fathead), electronic ticketing company (Flash Seats) and innovative sports equipment helmet maker (Xenith). In 2008, Dan acquired One Reverse Mortgage. The company specializes in products that allow homeowners, 62 years and older, the opportunity to convert some of the equity in their homes into tax-free money. One Reverse Mortgage is now the largest retail reverse mortgage lender in the country.

Dan began moving his Family of Companies to Detroit’s central business district in 2010 in an effort to help lead the transformation of a great American city. In January 2010, Dan co-founded Bedrock Real Estate Services, a full-service real estate firm specializing in purchasing, leasing, financing, developing and managing commercial space based in downtown Detroit. Since then, he has invested more than $1.8 billion to purchase and renovate more than 80 commercial properties accounting for more than 13 million square feet in the city’s urban core. Thousands of jobs have been created, and today more than 13,000 Rock Ventures team members work in downtown Detroit.

Dan founded Rock Gaming, a developer and owner of unique urban casinos in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Baltimore. The company acquired Detroit’s Greektown Casino-Hotel in April 2013.

In March 2013, Rock Ventures, in collaboration with the Downtown Detroit Partnership and Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, unveiled and implemented a visionary placemaking and retail plan centered on creating activity and vibrant, distinct destinations to draw people to the region using a multifaceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces.

Dan is a Founder and Principal of Detroit Venture Partners (DVP), a venture capital firm that funds startup and early-stage technology companies in Detroit. He is also a Founding Partner of Detroit-based private equity group Rockbridge Growth Equity LLC, which invests in growing businesses in the financial services, Internet technology, consumer-direct marketing and the sports and entertainment industries across the United States.

In September 2013, Dan was named co-chair of the Blight Removal Task Force. The group, appointed by the Obama Administration, published a detailed plan in May 2014 to remove all blighted structures and lots in the city of Detroit. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the M-1 RAIL initiative, which began construction in July 2014. The 6.6-mile light rail system is designed to spur economic development and improve downtown and midtown Detroit’s transportation infrastructure. In 2007, Dan founded Bizdom, a nonprofit entrepreneurial accelerator that trains, mentors and finances business builders in their startup enterprises in Detroit and Cleveland.

Dan serves on the boards of the Cleveland Clinic, the Washington D.C.-based Children’s National Medical Center and the Children’s Tumor Foundation, which is focused on finding a cure for the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his law degree from Wayne State University.

DAN GILBERT– FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN, QUICKEN LOANS AND ROCK VENTURES, MAJORITY OWNER, CLEVELAND

David Griffin was named the 10th General Manager in Cleveland Cavaliers history on May 12, 2014. As the GM, he manages and oversees all aspects of scouting, personnel, player acquisitions and transactions, and all team operations. He also oversees the Cavs’ exclusive NBA Development League affiliate, the Canton Charge. With community involvement being integral to Griffin’s focus with the team, he also guides the team’s player appearance committee in partnership with the business side of the Cavs organization.

Since being named general manager, Griffin has repositioned the team for continued and sustainable success via drafts and trades, while signing noteworthy free agents. Several of his most significant efforts came in the summer of 2014 when he brought in one of the most successful coaches in Europe, David Blatt, while also inking three-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving to a maximum length contract extension, signing four-time MVP LeBron James, and acquiring

three-time NBA All-Star Kevin Love via trade. In January 2015, Griffin also made key transactions to obtain Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith, moves that helped the Cavs capture a fourth Central Division title with a 53-29 record, including an NBA-best 34-9 mark over the final 43 games of the regular season, and then on to the playoffs where the team won their second Eastern Conference Championship.

Griffin was the acting GM for the Cavaliers’ final 33 games of the 2013-14 season in which the team had a 17-16 record following his appointment. He joined the Cavaliers as vice president of basketball operations in September 2010, managing all basketball and front office matters while overseeing the team’s scouting and player personnel areas.

Prior to joining the Cavaliers, Griffin spent 17 seasons with the Suns, the last three as the club’s senior vice president of basketball operations after being named to the position in June 2007. After originally joining the Suns basketball communications department in 1993 as an intern, Griffin saw his responsibilities steadily grow due to his passion, work ethic and analytical expertise.

After aiding the club’s media relations efforts for four seasons, Griffin moved to the basketball operations side in 1997, with a primary focus on statistical analysis, draft and free agency information, video preparation and scouting reports. Along the way, Griffin held the titles of assistant general manager of player personnel, director of player personnel, assistant director of player personnel and basketball operations assistant with the Suns.

The Phoenix native graduated from Arizona State in 1995 with a degree in political science. He and his wife, Meredith, reside on the east side of Cleveland.

DAVID GRIFFIN– GENERAL MANAGER, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Mike Gansey enters his fifth season with the Canton Charge and his second as General Manager after previ-ously serving as Director of Development League Operations for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his position, he oversees all basketball operations and player personnel matters of the Charge. He had previously spent the 2011-12 season as the Cavaliers’ Basketball Operations Seasonal Assistant.

With Gansey at the helm in 2015-2016, the Canton Charge tied its franchise mark in wins set the previous season with 31. The Charge reached the postseason for the fifth consecutive season, the only NBA D-League team to do so in that span. On top of the team’s success in 2015-2016, numerous individual accolades oc-curred. Charge guards John Holland (Celtics) and Jorge Gutierrez (Hornets) each received Gatorade NBA Call-Ups after outstanding play for the Wine and Gold. Under Gansey’s leadership, head coach Jordi Fernandez earned an NBA call-up as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets after two successful seasons on the bench for the Charge. Assistant coach Mike Batiste also received a call-up with the Brooklyn Nets. Damon Jones, on the Charge staff for just a season, was added to the Cleveland Cavaliers coaching staff. Jeff Feld,

Gansey’s assistant, took on the role of General Manager of the newly-formed Windy City Bulls. Steve Klei, the 2015-2016 Canton Charge basket-ball ops intern, landed with Utah as a video intern. Klei joins former Charge head coach Alex Jensen and operations intern Lamar Skeeter with the Jazz.

Gansey’s decision-making was instrumental in the success of the 2014-2015 Canton Charge – a team that set a franchise record with 31 wins. The Charge reached the postseason for the fourth consecutive year, joining the Santa Cruz Warriors as the only two teams to do so in the NBADL. On top of a franchise record in wins and fourth consecutive playoff appearance, the 2014-2015 Canton Charge also sent three players to the NBA under Gansey’s watch: Jorge Gutierrez received two call-ups with the Milwaukee Bucks and was joined by teammates Arinze Onuaku (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Will Cherry (Toronto Raptors).

Gansey, 31, is a native of Olmsted Falls and played collegiately at West Virginia, where, as a senior, he led the Mountaineers to the Sweet 16 and was named a finalist for the Oscar Robertson Award, the Wooden Award as well as the Naismith Trophy and won a gold medal with Team USA in the 2005 World University Games. Following his college career, he played professionally overseas for three seasons and in the NBA D-League for two. Gansey resides in Avon with his wife, Amy, and two daughters, Reagan and Emerson.

Mike Levy enters his third season as Senior Vice President/Chief Operating officer for the Canton Charge. In his first season, the Canton Charge set numerous attendance records, including both the single game attend-ance record and overall season attendance record.

In August of 2010, Levy was named President of the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. Prior to joining the Sparks, he served as Special Advisor, Business Development with the Cleveland Browns where he was responsible for transitioning the club's ticket sales and customer retention efforts.

In 2008, he spearheaded the start-up of the Arena Football League’s Cleveland Gladiators as COO/General Manager when the team averaged more than 14,000 fans per game and made it to the National Conference Finals

Levy spent the previous two years as Chief Marketing Officer with the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Prior to his tenure with the Tennis Hall of Fame, Levy served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies where he was responsible for the overall ticket sales, ticket services and marketing, including team advertising, brand management, creative services, internet marketing and development, publications, communications and general marketing and promotional programs for both the Grizzlies and FedEx Forum.

Before joining the Grizzlies in 2001, Levy spent five seasons as Vice President, Marketing and Communications for the Kansas City Royals. Levy also served as the Executive Vice President for the Venture Marketing Group in Houston, where he was in charge of the overall marketing, communications and operations for several racetracks.

As director of sales for the Houston Astros from 1986 to 1991, he directed promotions, sales and overall operations for group, season, and star suite tickets. Prior to his stay in Houston, Levy worked for the Pittsburgh Civic Arena Corporation and handled the sales and marketing for their professional football, soccer and hockey teams.

For a town that’s equated with pro football excellence, the city of Canton has welcomed pro hoops to central Stark County with open arms.

And Canton’s first pro squad – the NBA D-League’s Canton Charge – has appreciated that embrace since the moment they tipped off their inaugural season within the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

It’s not as if Canton hasn’t seen its share of exciting roundball at the Civic Center. For years, fans have watched several future pros – including a few future Cavaliers – cut their teeth in the high school playoffs.

“Every year I visit the Civic Center to watch several Sectional and District OHSAA playoff games, and I’m always amazed by how many of these local stars experience success at the college and professional level,” observed Mayor William Healy. “Former NBA stars, Nick Weatherspoon, Gary Grant, Phil Hubbard, Keith McLeod and Eric Snow all called Canton their hometown, so we are no stranger to professional basketball.”

Keith McLeod, the first-ever player signed by the Charge before their inaugural season, played his share of big games at the Civic Center.

The 32-year-old Canton-McKinley grad eventually moved on to win Player of the Year honors in the M.A.C. with Bowling Green, and played for four NBA teams before returning home.

He recalled a big game against Jackson High at the Civic Center – avenging McKinley’s only home loss of the season. And now, some of those same hoops fans will see the Charge’s new combo-guard once again.

“Around here, that’s all I’m hearing is people saying, ‘I can’t wait to get to a game,’” beamed McLeod. “I think it’s going to be real nice, and I think everybody around here is excited to see what it’s going to be like.”

The Civic Center, built in 1951, has hosted – and continues to host – more than just basketball. The Canton Invaders played indoor soccer there for 13 years and the Canton Legends indoor football played there for three. Currently, indoor soccer is represented by the Ohio Vortex and indoor football, the Canton Cougars.

Several WWE Live Events have been held at the Civic Center, and the venue hosted an MMA event just two nights before the Charge opener.

The 3,942-seat arena has also welcomed some of the biggest names in entertainment and politics. Comedians Jeff Dunham and Eddie Griffin have performed there recently and legends like Bob Dylan have done so in the past. And naturally, the Globetrotters make an annual stop.

Rudy Giuliani and George W. Bush have spoken at the Civic Center, as has Barack Obama – who held a Closing Address Rally eight days before being elected as Commander in Chief.

Of course, before becoming the everyday home of a professional basketball team, the Civic Center appreciated some updates and renovations. The Cavaliers organization rolled up their sleeves to get them done in short order.

While the Civic Center retains the special character of a proud and experienced basketball venue, several updates and a couple renovations have also readied it for the next phase of its service as home to a new pro team. A new pro-style maple court and extension baskets from Spalding were installed. The overhead lighting grid was also increased and improved. Plus, other lighting effects and physical updates in the seating area were added that will certainly create an updated look and feel to the game environment, while maintaining the great old-school vibe and closeness to the game .

The fan experience at the Civic Center was also considered, and floor seating, court boxes and a VIP area were added.

Cavaliers Vice President of Facility Operations, Antony Bonavita ran the point for most of the improvements.

“We focus on great fan experiences (at Quicken Loans Arena) and we wanted to create a platform for that in Canton,” said Bonavita. “Similar to our Cavaliers product, we wanted to make sure that people recognize that what you see at The Q – obviously to a different degree – is what you’re going to experience with the Canton Charge.”

The Charge players are also pleased with the renovations – which began two months prior to the season and wrapped up in time for opening tipoff. Improvements included a renovated locker room with shower heads that were adjusted for potential 6-9 power forwards.

The Civic Center is where the Charge unveiled the finished product on November 25, 2011, but before they could take the (new) floor, they needed a place to hone their skills.

And in late September of 2011, the Cavaliers and Charge settled on the spacious Edgewood Community Cen-

ter as the team’s official practice and training facility.

Edgewood Community Center has been open to the public since March 2007, with the goal of enriching the

community’s physical, emotional and spiritual health – from children to seniors – through fitness, sports,

arts, recreation and wellness. This year, the court was configured into a regulation NBA court.

It had to be stripped down – which was a process lasting almost four weeks. It was also an 84-foot court that

had to be extended to 94 feet. Lines were painted, a shot clock installed and coaches offices were retrofitted.

ECC is not only where the squad practices, it’s where a good portion of it is assembled. The facility hosts the

team’s NBA D-League Draft party. Media, Cavaliers and Charge staff – along with season ticket holders –

watch the selections unfold in real time.

The Civic Center has seen its share of legends and Hall of Famers walk through the door – from Deion Sanders to President Donald Trump.

Canton’s D-League hoopsters are a long way from basketball’s Hall of Fame. But as Confucius said: The journey of a thousand miles begins with a

single step.

“This is something that the Civic Center can be proud of long-term,” concluded Bonavita. “We certainly appreciated the great partnership with

the city and the fans. We said we were going to bring a first-class product to Canton – and I think we’ve done that.”
