how do introduce a new way to cool your beverage?
Design and implement a multi-part product using wide-spreadmanufacturing processes, using metals and plastics. - ME203
GlassCool is my first foray into a full product development, fromconception to implementation. I chose to tackle Americandrinking habits. More specifically, American drinking habits whereit is most entrenched with old social cues.
GLASSCOOLWATER
tap water is not necessarily safe, and many households or places ofbusinesses do not own a filtering system installed for general use (suchas when freezing ice cubes)
WATER IN USE
When drinking juice or alcohol, ice serves as a coolant-- but when itmelts, it ends up diluting your drink.
WATER IN CONTEXT
the office, and the more exclusive bars, are places with entrenchedcultural habits that exist and are upheld to a high standard for the merereason of their existence at the time the establishment was founded. This incorporates decor as well clienteles style, manners, and includes
their drinking habits. In the US, this means drinks are diluted with water.
For a high quality whiskey, or a perfectly mixed cocktail, that is a shame.

the neoprene sleeve allows for easyhandling, even when very cold
a silicone ring in the base provides asurface to seal the container, so that asthe ice melts, it maintains its temperaturewithout spilling
the segmented, walnut/bloodwood ringprovides the needed touch to move fromindustrial to a more refined parlor style
the cast aluminum base provides a sturdyregistration for the container

Find an open-ended user narrative to innovate around, and design an injection molded product, through tomanufacturing spec and feasibility. -- Craig Milroy, ME318
For me, this came at a very poignant moment in myfamilys life, when my father battled cancer; as forgetful ashe is, he has to now take pills every day for the rest of his life.

I looked for moments in a day that were consistentI looked for habits that were already formedI looked for the best case scenario for taking medication (with water & food)
And then I looked at how that injection molding machine works...

todays middle schoolers have a different frame of references than what I grew up with. Technology delivers an
increasingly interactive experience.
Academica is notoriously slow to catch up to these new behaviors.

The Product Design Student Association wasrevived this past year, in an attempt toprovide services to Product Design studentswho at times feel lost within the cross-disciplinary depths of our studies.

What I had not realized was how difficult it is to get a group of people to actively engage with you, especially when theythemselves understand the principles with which you are trying to convince them. It is difficult to realize you yourself arenot, in fact, living out the very strategies you apply to your work.
