Unparalleled access to one of nature’s most diverse playgroundsOur sleek, nimble ship can hug the shore and venture into secluded inlets that would be off limits to a larger vessel. We will bring you about as close as you can safely get to the massive glaciers, spar-kling waterfalls, and forested islands that characterize this remote region of Alaska.

Wildlife so close you can hear them breatheBy kayak or by skiff, you’ll be able to enjoy the wonders of Alaska up close and personal. See the spray as whales exhale only yards away. Observe bears fishing for salmon as they make their way upstream. Engage in a friendly game of hide and seek with some playful harbor seals. You will see Alaska and its wildlife at eye level.

A wealth of knowledge at your fingertipsAn Orbridge expedition leader plus two naturalists will accompany you throughout your expedition, pro-viding on board lectures and im-promptu lessons on topics ranging from geology to marine mammal feeding habits. In addition, a Park Ranger from Glacier Bay National Park will join us overnight, provid-ing in-depth information about this protected wilderness reserve.

Peaceful evenings in hidden covesIn the evenings, our engines will be off while we lie at anchor in hidden coves and savor the still-ness. You may want to use this opportunity to drop a fishing line from the stern or to search the night sky for the Northern Lights. Perhaps start the next day with an early paddle in the morning mist.

Experience the wonders of Alaskaup close and personal.

NAlaska’s Inside Passage Alaska is a destination of superlatives – most rugged, most remote, most majestic. For centuries, travelers have made difficult, danger-ous journeys to explore - and to exploit - this harsh and beautiful land. The inexorable forces of nature are on full display here - mountains eroded by the crushing force of massive glaciers, icebergs crowding cold aquamarine seas, and the reproductive cycles of plants and animals com-pressed into the scant, warm weeks of an arctic summer.

Day 1: Arrive in Juneau / Embarkation After your arrival in Juneau, transfer

from the airport to the Safari Explor-er for a late afternoon embarkation. Your crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and we’ll cruise to a secluded wilderness anchorage this evening. (D)

Day 2: Icy Strait and Point AdolphusSearch for the tell-tale blow of the humpback whale as

we cross Icy Strait and round Point Adolphus. After anchoring for the evening in a remote bay, we’ll lower the kayaks and skiffs and look for wildlife such as sea otters and bears. (B,L,D)

Days 3–4: Glacier Bay National ParkDuring our two days in the park, we’ll cruise nearly 60 miles to Grand Pacific and

Margerie Glaciers, which frequently calve huge icebergs into the bay. Conditions permitting, we’ll lower the inflatables and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. Enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings kayaking or hiking in the quiet of this majestic wilder-ness. Here in the bay there are puffins, sea lions, mountain goats, bears, moose, eagles, and some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Chatham StraitAnchored in a remote bay off Chichagof Island, we’ll take

time to skiff and kayak in our tranquil bay, and per-haps explore one of the many waterfalls for returning salmon or the telltale sign of bears. Once back on board, we’ll continue down Chatham Strait in search of more marine mammals such as the Dall’s porpoise, which approach the vessel to bow ride. This evening, we’ll anchor in a quiet, picturesque bay off Baranof Island. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Frederick Sound / Admiralty Island Explore the cool, forested shoreline of Gambier Bay, a

large, island-speckled body of water on the south coast of Admiralty Island National Monument. Never logged, the thick evergreen forest crowds right down to the gravel beaches. Here it may be possible to

see some of the famous Admiralty Island grizzly bears, known to patrol the beaches at low tide, seeking a shellfish supper. Once again under way, we’ll watch for humpback whales before possibly anchoring at Wood Spit for more exploration by kayak and skiff. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Ford’s Terror & Endicott Arm

Deep glacial fjords are on display today in an area

widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in all of Alaska. Snow gleams on high moun-taintops and sparkling waterfalls tumble down cliffs as bears amble on the shoreline and moun-tain goats cling to impossibly precarious perches. If the tide is right, enjoy a skiff ride at Ford’s Terror, named after an early mariner who was somewhat taken aback when a waterfall appeared at the turn of the tide where none had been visible before. We’ll anchor overnight in a quiet harbor to enjoy the Captain’s Farewell Dinner in a lovely and peaceful setting. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Return to Juneau / DisembarkationArrive back in Juneau in the early morning, and transfer to the airport for return flights home. (B)

Your Leader & Guide

L iz grew up exploring the shores of Puget Sound and the waters of the

Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound. Wanting to see more of the Pacific Coast, upon graduation from college she went to Southeast Alaska as a deckhand aboard a boat. In the ensuing years, she apprenticed herself to research projects on birds, marine algae, and a variety of marine mammals; worked as a kayak guide; and for the past ten years has worked as a marine educator and naturalist. Liz brings with her a wide-ranging fascination for the world and an interest

in how literature and natural history can together encour-age empathy, understanding, and curiosity. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and is the author of two collections of poetry: Approaching Ice (Persea, 2010), and Interpretive Work (Arktoi Books, 2008). A former Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, her poems have been published in The Atlantic Monthly, Orion, Poetry, and elsewhere. She lives on Cape Cod, where she assists with research on whales and seals and is a member of Cape Cod Stranding Network.

The refund of all program price payments received shall release Orbridge from any further liability. In addition and without limitation, the Orbridge Group shall not be liable for any injury, loss, death, inconvenience, delay or damage to personal property in connection with the provi-sion of any goods or services, including without limitation those whether resulting from acts of God or force majeure, illness, disease, acts of war, civil unrest, insurrec-tion or revolt, animals, strikes or other labor activities, criminal or terrorist activities of any kind, overbooking or downgrading of services, food poisoning, mechanical or other failure of aircraft, vessels or other means of transportation or for failure of any means of transportation to arrive or depart on time. Dates, program details and costs, although given in good faith and based on tariffs, exchange rates and other information current at the time of printing, are subject to change at or before the time of departure. While we do not anticipate material revisions of the itinerary or its included features, we do reserve the right to substitute accommodations or modes of transportation and to make any changes in the itinerary where deemed necessary, and in that case any additional expenses will be paid by the individual guest. Where applicable, in no event shall the aggregate liability of the Orbridge Group (whether in contract, warranty, tort (including but not limited to negligence), product liability, strict liability or other theory) arising out of or relating to the use of services exceed the amount you actually paid Orbridge for the program or tour out of which the claim arose. Your baggage and personal effects are your sole responsibility at all times. There are many inherent risks in travel, which can lead to illness, injury, or even death. These risks are increased by the fact that some of the programs we book take place in remote locations, far from medical facilities. You assume all such risks associated with participating in this program.
