As 2016 came to a close, Alba was able to achieve an unprecedented annual metal production record of 971,420 metric tonnes (mt), which highlights the company’s keenness to push the limits on operational performance while using its existing assets, as well as maintaining an exceptional safety record.

The month of December was filled with joyous activities, perhaps the most prominent of those were the plant-wide festivities held to mark Bahrain’s 45th National Day and 17th Anniversary of HM the King’s accession to the throne, as everyone took part in the celebrations while red and white symbolic colours donned the Company and traditional Bahraini sweets and confections were distributed to everyone. National Day celebrations were extended with a spectacular Family Day event at Adhari Park where employees along with their families spent a day full of fun activities and games.

Moreover, Alba was keen to mark the occasion of Bahraini Women’s Day by honouring its women employees with a celebration that hailed their contributions and key role in the success of the company.

Alba achieved a record metal production of 971,420 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2016. Alba’s production figures for 2016 is the highest ever recorded, up by 1.1% YoY as compared to 960,643 mt in 2015.Commenting on Alba’s milestone achievement, Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray said: “We are proud to be celebrating yet another record in production despite the tough market conditions. Alba has succeeded once again due to the hard work of its people, effective teamwork and commitment to operational efficiency.This achievement is significant because it was accomplished on the back of our high Safety performance and without significant additional capital expenditures, only by relying on our culture of continuous improvement.I congratulate everyone on the record-production and look forward to bigger achievements in 2017 as when united, we do better than necessary to improve our performance and plant reliability”. A ceremony to mark the milestone production was held on 08, January 2017 at Alba Oasis, which was attended by Alba Executive Management, Directors, Managers and employees from various departments.

مرتي.وتعليقًا على هذا الإجناز، �شرح الرئي�ش التنفيذي ل�شركة البا، تيم موري، قائاًل:

Alba received a delegation from the Supreme Council For Environment (SCE) on Dec 6, 2016, headed by H.H. Shaikh Khalifa bin Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, to discuss areas of mutual cooperation.The delegation members were welcomed by Director of Administration Waleed Tamimi and Sr. Manager SHE Mohd Khalil, who highlighted Alba’s latest initiatives in preserving and promoting greenery within the Company, as well as eco-friendly measures and agricultural achievements.

Alba received the Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain H.E. Mr. Bernard Régnauld-Fabre who was accompanied by Deputy Director of Middle East at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ludovic Pouille and Chief of Economy Section at the French Embassy Mrs. Aude Robin-Mitrevski.The visit was aimed at boosting the strong commercial ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of France.Alba’s Chief Financial Officer Ali Al Baqali and Director of Administration Waleed Al Tamimi met with the French delegation and gave them insights on Alba’s role in supporting the national economy and the Company’s future plans.

The final of session Alba’s key leadership workshop “Boss vs. Leader” was held in December for non-management staff at the Alba Club.The "Boss vs. Leader" workshop, designed and delivered by Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, was introduced in 2016 as part of the Company’s strategy to develop its people and equip them with valuable leadership skills as well as steer them towards a business mindset.CEO Tim Murray said: “People are our most valuable asset. We believe that by developing our people, we can attain better performance and excellent results. Workshops such as the "Boss vs. Leader" are not only a live example of Alba’s commitment towards the development of its people but also enable the workforce to be better aligned with the Company’s goals and priorities.”

In line with Alba’s CEO Expectations 2016, the departments of Marketing and SHE conducted a mini Safety Campaign titled “Safe and Sound” to fulfil the most important expectation for 2016 which is “Safety Universe”. The campaign aimed to promote health, safety and environment awareness among Alba employees and ensure that the safety momentum is sustained during the final days of 2016. The SHE Campaign programme included events such as plant-wide quizzes, safety visits and housekeeping.

Alba CEO Tim Murray along with COO Amin Sultan and other officials visited the area of the new Rectiformer (R37), which was installed over 16 months of safe work. This Project will significantly improve the reliability of power supply that feeds Red. Line 3.The installation of this new Rectiformer comes in line with Alba’s continuous endeavours to be efficient aluminium producer.

وق��د مت اإع��داد ور�ش��ة العم��ل ه��ذه وتقدميه��ا من قبل الرئي��ش التنفيذي ل�ش��ركة البا تيم م��وري، ال��ذي قدمه��ا خ��الل الع��ام 2016 يف اإط��ار ا�ش��رتاتيجية ال�ش��ركة بتطوي��ر وتنمي��ة املوظفني وتزويدهم باملهارات القيادية الالزمة، اإىل جانب توجيههم للتفكري بطريقة

جتارية.وق��د �ش��رح م��وري يف ه��ذا ال�ش��دد قائ��اًل: "يعترب املوظف��ون اأهم ثروات ال�ش��ركة، ونحن نوؤمن اأننا من خالل تطوير وتنمية موظفينا ميكننا اأن نقدم اأداًء اأف�شل لتحقيق النتائج املتميزة. وور�شة عمل "امل�شوؤول مقابل القائد" لي�شت فقط مثاًل حيًا للتزام البا بتطوير موظفيها، بل وت�شاهم اأي�شًا يف متكني املوظفني من العمل مبا يتما�شى واأهداف ال�شركة

متا�ش��يًا م��ع توقع��ات الرئي��ش التنفي��ذي لع��ام 2016، قام��ت دائرة الت�ش��ويق بالتعاون مع دائرة ال�شالمة وال�شحة والبيئة بتنظيم حملة �شالمة م�شغرة بعنوان "ب�شحة وعافية" وذل��ك لتحقي��ق اأه��م توقع��ات الرئي��ش التنفي��ذي لع��ام 2016 وه��و "ف�ش��اء ال�ش��المة". وته��دف ه��ذه احلملة اإىل ن�ش��ر مبادئ ال�شحة وال�ش��المة والبيئ��ة بني املوظفني و�شمان حف��اظ املوظف��ني عل��ى جهوده��م واإ�ش��هاماتهم نح��و ال�ش��المة خ��الل الأي��ام الأخرية من الع��ام. وق��د ا�ش��تمل برنام��ج ه��ذه احلمل��ة عل��ى فعاليات عدي��دة كالختب��ارات الق�شرية

عل��ى م�ش��توى امل�شنع، وزيارات ال�ش��المة، وحم��الت لنظافة والرتتيب.

زار الرئي��ش التنفي��ذي ل�ش��ركة الب��ا تي��م م��وري، مبرافق��ة الرئي��ش التنفي��ذي للعملي��ات ،R37 الإنتاجية اأمني �شلطان وعدد من امل�شوؤولني بال�شركة، موقع عمل املحول اجلديدوالذي مت تركيبه على مدى 16 �شهرًا ب�شكل اآمن متامًا، حيث �شي�شاهم هذا امل�شروع يف

تطوي��ر العتمادي��ة لإمداد الطاقة التي تغذي خط ال�شهر الثالث.وج��اء تركي��ب املح��ول اجلدي��د متا�ش��يًا م��ع جه��ود ال�ش��ركة امل�ش��تمرة بتحقي��ق الكف��اءة

Alba employees, Ebrahim Yaqoob Rashid from Reduction Maintenance & Services Dept. and Mohammed Ghuloom Shaban from Casthouse 3 Plant, were honoured by the Ministry of Labour in the Ministry’s 32nd Annual Ceremony which was held on December 29, 2016, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.HM The King deputised Labour Minister H.E Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan to attend the ceremony that honoured many outstanding employees from different sectors and establishments in the Kingdom.

A team of Bahraini youth led by Alba employees Mahmood Ebrahim Khamis from SHE Department and Ali A.Rasool Radhi from Metallurgy & Customer Technical Support Department, won the Third place in the “Environmental Friend 2030 Team” competition that was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bahrain.Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, the Environmental Friend 2030 Team competition is an annual event that invites various establishments in Bahrain to submit sustainable environment projects that aimed to keep the Kingdom green.The ‘Environment Friend’ team led by Mahmood and Ali participated in the fifth version of this award. The project submitted by their team focussed on recycling waste food and won the third place out of 33 other participating teams. The team invented a device that recycled waste food and converted it into an organic fertiliser that can be used for domestic plants and agriculture in order to produce healthier products, free from chemicals and other harmful substances.

للحف��اظ عل��ى بيئة خ�ش��راء يف اململكة.وج��اءت م�ش��اركة فري��ق "اأ�شدق��اء البيئة" بقيادة املوظفني حممود وعلي خالل الن�ش��خة اخلام�ش��ة م��ن ه��ذه امل�ش��ابقة. ورك��ز مل�ش��روع ال��ذي تق��دم ب��ه الفري��ق عل��ى اإع��ادة تدوي��ر املخلفات من الأطعمة، وح�شل على املركز الثالث �شمن 33 فريقًا م�شاركًا يف امل�شابقة. وقد عمل الفريق على اخرتاع جهاز يقوم باإعادة تدوير املخلفات من الأطعمة وحتويلها اإىل اأ�شمدة ع�شوية ميكن ا�شتخدامها يف حديقة املنزل من اأجل تعزيز �شحة النباتات

والثمار التي يتم زراعتها دون اللجوء للمواد الكيميائية وغريها من املواد ال�شارة.

In line with its endeavours towards bolstering the knowledge of Alba officials and talented employees, Training Dept. conducted a new training course titled “Job Analysis &

Evaluation” at the Alba Club on December 4 and 6, 2016. This course, which was delivered by the Global Management

Consulting Firm, Hay Group, focussed on how to reach effective job descriptions and specifications by clearly

defining duties, responsibilities, accountabilities, as well as skills associated with the various jobs.

Alba hosted the Industrial Environment Network Committee Meeting on December 22, 2016, which was attended by Director of Administration, Waleed Tamimi and Sr. Manager SHE, Security and Fire, Moh’d Khalil.Other major companies such as Balexco, Bapco, Tatweer, GPIC and Alezzel participated in this meeting, which focussed on areas of mutual cooperation in environmental protection and employees’ health and wellbeing.Alba highlighted the new developments in

Line 6 Expansion Project as well as the latest environmental systems that will be implemented for the Project. In general, updated regulations, new technology and developments for emission monitoring and the common challenges faced by the industry in Bahrain, in terms of waste generation and possibilities of recycling were focussed upon during the meeting

Alba was a gold sponsor and participant of the 4th Middle East Maintenance & Reliability Conference (MaintCon) 2016, which was held from December 12-15, 2016, under the patronage of Bahrain’s Minister of Oil H.E. Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, at the Gulf Hotel, Bahrain. Alba’s COO Amin Sultan along with Director Carbon & Services Hassan Noor and other top officials attended the inauguration ceremony, during which the Minister of Oil H.E. Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa awarded Alba for its continuous support towards the Conference, as well as for its active participation and effective presence.

A delegation from Alba, led by Director Reduction Lines & Services Abdulla Habib, participated in the GAC Electrolysis Seminar that was held on December 6 and 7, 2016 at Sohar Aluminum, Oman.This annual Seminar provides a platform to share best industrial practices with regards to Reduction Lines’ processes in general as well as to get to know the latest technological trends.

In line with the Company’s commitment towards empowering young Bahrainis, Alba hosted the participants of CFA Institute’s Research Challenge 2016 at its Oasis Hall on December 12, 2016.The Research Challenge is an annual global competition in which students work in teams to research and analyse a publicly traded company. This year, the Bahraini students were challenged to write an equity report about Alba. The students met with CFO Ali Al Baqali and Manager IR, PR and Corporate Affairs Eline Hilal who answered their questions and briefed them about the various aspects of Alba’s experience in the Investor Relations and Corporate Governance fields.

Bahrain expects to see non-oil sector growth of more than 3 percent in 2016 and 2.4 percent in 2017, said EDB Chief. The non-oil sector grew by 3.6 percent in the second quarter of 2016, a marked acceleration from 2.7 percent in the first quarter of the year, according to official statistics published in October. The sector, which accounts for more than 80 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), has continued to grow despite lower oil prices and global economic volatility

A more bullish metals price outlook for next year is being prompted by a number of global developments in 2016, most notably additional infrastructure spending in China and other developed markets, according to BMI Research. Another key development that is leading to the bullish outlook is the surprise election of Donald Trump to the US presidency, analysts at UK-based BMI Research said.

Alcoa Corporation, Cleveland, unveiled Sustana, its newest aluminium product, at the Aluminium 2016 exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany. The new sustainable product line, which is manufactured with low carbon emissions and more recycled content would cater to customer demand for sustainable aluminium products. The product would help companies to cut carbon footprint along their complete supply chain.

Most of EGA's annual production is value-added products, with about 90 per cent of total production being exported across the world. Alloy billets make up 46 per cent of EGA’s total production. A large proportion of the annual production is cast in highly extrudable 6063 alloy. The two operations of EGA at Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah manufacture high purity aluminium in the form of ingots for high-precision use in the electronics and aerospace industries.

With the start of the winter season, many employees will face the challenge of driving in foggy weather on their way to Alba, especially during the wee hours of the morning. Driving safely in foggy weather is a critical issue that one needs to be aware of in order to avoid road side injuries and potentially fatal accidents. Below are a few tips that can help you drive safely during foggy weather:• Drive slowly: Visibility in foggy weather becomes very limited and driving slowly is the best way to practice defensive driving and avoid obstacles and other vehicles on the road.• Maintain a safe distance: Always maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and other vehicles on the road. You may need to increase the distance by a few meters during thick fog to give yourself sufficient time and distance to apply emergency brakes whenever needed without risking an accident.• Always use fog lights and not head lights: Using headlights during foggy weather makes it difficult for other drivers to focus on the road due to the glaring effect caused by the reflection of the headlights on the surround fog. Hence, it is advisable to avoid using headlights during thick fog and use low lights or fog settings. Also, use hazard warning lights or side blinkers only for an emergency situation or sudden stop of the vehicle and not while driving on the road.• Use road lane markers as guides: With thick fog, it becomes difficult to identify the boundaries of surrounding objects and the position of the vehicle in relation to other drivers and road users. Hence, driving safely in thick fog requires constant monitoring of road lane markers as guides to steer the car away from any dangers or approaching objects.• Avoid driving when visibility becomes really limited: It is not worth risking your life when visibility becomes very limited in thick fog. It is always better to stop the vehicle in a safe space and wait until the fog clears up. The best way to avoid unnecessary accidents is to judge the situation carefully and make safe choices that will guarantee the safety of all road users during the winter season.

بع��د اإمتام��ي املرحل��ة الثانوي��ة، عملت يف �ش��ركة بليك��و وخالل هذه الف��رتة وحتديدا بعد قراب��ة ال�ش��تة اأ�ش��هر اأعلن��ت الب��ا ع��ن وج��ود �ش��واغر يف العدي��د م��ن التخ�ش�ش��ات خالل ت�ش��ييدها خل��ط ال�شه��ر الراب��ع، وتقدم��ت باأوراق��ي لل�ش��ركة وبع��د اجتي��ازي لالإمتح��ان

واملقابل��ة ال�ش��خ�شية والفح��ش الطب��ي، التحقت بال�ش��ركة يف نف��ش العام.كونــك أحــد الالعبيــن الســابقين فــي لعبــة كــرة اليــد، هــال حدثتنــا عــن

الرياضــي؟ مشــوارك بدايت��ي م��ع لعب��ة ك��رة الي��د تع��ود للع��ام 1983 عندم��ا التحق��ت بن��ادي الوح��دة ) النجمة حاليا(، والذي كان اأحد اأقطاب اللعبة اىل جانب النادي الأهلي ونادي القاد�شية والذي اندمج لحقا مع نادي النجمة، لعبت حينها يف فئة الأ�شبال ويف نف�ش العام مت اختياري �شم��ن منتخ��ب البحري��ن لالأ�ش��بال ال��ذي كان ي�ش��تعد لبطولة جمل��ش التع��اون اخلليجي والتي اأقيمت يف الدوحة، وبعدها لعبت مع فريق النا�ش��ئني ومت اختياري جمددا �شمن �شفوف منتخب البحرين لل�شباب ولعبنا يف البطولة الدولية امل�شغرة والتي اأقيمت يف دولة المارات العربية املتحدة، ومن ثم لعبت مع الفريق الأول بنادي الوحدة واأحرزت معه��م العدي��د م��ن البط��ولت املحلي��ة واخلارجي��ة، م��ن بينه��ا بطول��ة جمل��ش التع��اون اخلليجي التي اأقيمت يف مدينة العني، كما �شاركت مع الفريق يف بطولة اأنقرة الدولية .

بع��د ذل��ك انتقل��ت لن��ادي املنام��ة ولعب��ت معه��م ملو�ش��مني واأح��رزت م��ع الفري��ق بطول��ة دوري الدرجة الثانية، بعدها لعبت مو�ش��مني مع نادي البحرين، واختتمت م�ش��واري يف

الع��ام 1997 م��ع ن��ادي الب�ش��تني .من هم النجوم الذين عاصرتهم خالل مشوارك في اللعبة؟

عا�ش��رت العدي��د م��ن جن��وم اللعبة خالل م�ش��واري الريا�شي وبالطب��ع كان اأبرزهم بدر مريزا ونبيل طه وعدنان �ش��يار و�ش��عيد جوهر وحممد اأحمد واإ�ش��ماعيل باقر وجم�ش��ري واأبناء نامي وبا�شم الدرازي والكثري من النجوم التي ل تكفي هذه ال�شطور حل�شرهم.

ال�ش��بب الرئي�ش��ي يف ابتع��ادي ع��ن اللعب��ة كان يتمث��ل يف ع��دم قدرت��ي للتوفي��ق بني العمل وان�شباط��ي يف ح�ش��ور التماري��ن واملباري��ات وبالطبع انحزت لوظيفتي وف�شلت البتعاد

عن ال�ش��تمرار يف اللعب.بالعودة الى البا، ما الذي تعلمت منها بعد كل هذه السنوات؟

تعلمت يف البا مامل اأتعلمه يف اأي مكان اآخر، تعلمت منها العتماد على النف�ش وتقدمي امل�ش��اعدة لكل من يحتاجها، تعلمت منها ال�شرب وال�شرار على الهدف وعدم الركون

للياأ�ش مهما كانت الظروف.وماذا أعطتك البا؟

الب��ا اأعطتن��ي كل �ش��يء ومل تبخ��ل عل��ّي يوم��ا، وكل ما اأملكه هو من بع��د اهلل بف�شل البا، ولهذا اأعتربها بيتي الثاين .

بماذا تنصح زمالئك في العمل؟اأن�شحه��م اأن يعمل��وا بج��د وان�شب��اط واأن يط��وروا اأنف�ش��هم علميا وعمليا با�ش��تمرار واأن

يعلموا اأن ال�شركة مل ت�شل ملا و�شلت اإليه اإل بجهود وت�شحيات الأجيال ال�شابقة .بعيدا عن أجواء العمل، كيف تقضي يومك؟

اأق�شي اأغلب اأيامي مع العائلة والأولد با�ش��تثناء ليلتي ال�ش��بت والثنني التي اأكون فيها مع الأ�شدقاء.

Can you introduce your self?I am happily settled with two boys Elia and Eliyas and a girl: and Eliana.

How did your journey begin with Alba?After my high school, I joined Baleco and was there for six months. I then heard that Alba had opened up vacancies for its Reduction Line 4. I applied and completed the formalities and became a full time employee of Alba in February 1992.

Tell us about your journey as a handball playerI joined Al Najma club handball team in 1983, which was one of the strongest clubs in Bahrain at that time. Soon I was was selected to join the National Youth squad for the GCC tournaments in Doha and UAE. I also played for the senior squad at Al Najma and participated in many internal and external tournaments representing Bahrain officially. I left Al Najma club and received an offer to play for Manama handball team for two seasons following which I played with Bahrain club for two more seasons. I was with Al Busaiteen club when I retired officially from the game in 1997.I consider myself privileged as I played along with many iconic players in Bahrain - Bader Mirza, Nabeel Taha, Adnan Sayyar, Saeed Johar, Mohd Ahmed, Ismail Baqer, Jamsheer and Basem Al Durazi.

Was there a nickname for you then?There were many nicknames, but the closest one to my heart is: the successor for Nabeel Taha, the famous Bahraini player and captain.

Why did you quit playing the game? It was getting difficult to juggle time between attending practice sessions and my full time job. I decided to focus on my career and family and hence, stopped playing.

What does Alba mean to you?Alba has given me everything I have today. I learnt independence, confidence, helping others, patience, perseverance and most importantly, to never give up.

This company is my second home and I am so grateful to work for such a major establishment for all these years.

What would you like to tell your colleagues?I always say that we should work hard and maintain a level of discipline as well as focus on self-development, while understanding that the progress of Alba is driven by the efforts and sacrifices of those who preceded them.

How do you spend your free time?I am a family man and prefer to spend time with them, especially my children. I also make sure to meet with friends twice a week.

What are you hobbies?I like sports, travelling and music

What is the first thing you do and the last thing you do on a typical day?

The first thing I do when I wake up is my morning prayers and the last thing I do is watch some TV shows and programs

What is the most significant event in your life?Definitely getting married.

Tell us about a wish that came true and another wish waiting to become true?My children is a wish that came true and seeing them grow to become successful individuals in the future is a wish waiting to become true.

Your favourite dish?Machboos with Hammor

Something that you feel proud of? Representing Bahrain in handball.

Alba marked the Kingdom of Bahrain’s 45th National Day and 17th Anniversary of HM the King’s accession to the throne with a plant-wide celebration on December 15, 2016 at Oasis Hall, Alba.The red and white symbolic colours of the Bahrain flag donned the Company as everyone from the Executive Management, Directors, managers and employees participated in the celebrations. Bahrain flags and traditional Bahraini sweets as well as festive confections were distributed to everyone present. Speaking on this joyous occasion, Alba’s Chief Financial Officer, Ali Al Baqali said:“Since its establishment more than four decades ago, Alba has achieved many accolades and attained success which has been only possible due to the vision and continuous support of Bahrain’s Leadership and the Government of Bahrain. We started with Ammar Ghuloom Hussain from Cast House Maintenance Department, who seemed to be very confident that the new year will be better than the previous years from many aspects. He added: “I am an optimist by nature, and I always expect the best to come, therefore, I am very confident that this year will be much better than last year”. As for his hopes for the new year, Ammar says: “I wish Alba all the best and success on various fronts, starting with LME price, which we hope that it will pick up nicely from its current levels, and moving through production records, which we hope that they will be higher than last year, and ending with the company’s Line 6 expansion project, which we hope that it will progress as planned and achieve its completion targets”.Ammar also hopes this year’s safety records will surpass last year’s record with no Lost Time Injuries to be recorded, which is a common goal for all Alba employees”.Ammar concluded his remarks by expressing his wish to continue with personal growth and development as well as spending more quality time with his wife and children.

We also met Hameed Qambar from Internal Audit, who started by wishing all employees the best on the start of the new year. “There are many wishes, and all we need is to have the will and work hard towards achieving our dreams and ambitions so that we can translate these aspirations into a reality that everyone can witness,” he said. Hameed also added that he wishes Alba an accident free year with the participation of all team members and the advance level of awareness that employees have regarding safety. Additional, he hopes that Line 6 project will proceed as planned and will be supported by the outcomes from the cost cutting project.Hameed continued by saying: “I also wish to continue my professional and career growth by joining professional courses related to my field of work and specialization”.He also praised the company its efforts in promoting a leaning culture where employees are encouraged to seek more training and development in their respected fields. Hameed concluded by wishing the kingdom of Bahrain all the best, hoping that the journey of prosperity will continue to reap more rewards and achievements for our beloved country.

The start of each year is the perfect opportunity to review what has been achieved in the previous year, and lay forward the goals and objectives of the year ahead. And in line with this theme, we thought of meeting with a selection of Alba employees and find out what gives them hope in the new year and what wishes they are aspiring to achieve.

As for Mahmood Ismail from Carbon Department, he started by saying: “At the start of each year, our hearts become full of hopes, dream and aspirations, and only the successful individuals know how to prioritize these aspirations and focus on the most important ones in order to achieve the best outcomes”.He also mentioned that his biggest wish for this year is to build the house of his dreams by benefiting from Alba House Scheme, which provides employees with financial loans that help them in renting or buying housing units with very affordable repayment terms”.Mahmood also wishes to finish his higher studies and take part in useful courses that will benefit him on the professional level and enable him to achieve better outcomes in completing the tasks and requirements. Mahmood concluded by hoping that Alba finishes Line 6 Expansion project in time, which will make it the largest single site smelter in the world and resembles the most significant milestone in the history or Alba over the past 40 years of operations.

Our final interview was with Hasan Abdul Aziz who began by saying that: “Our ambitions are limitless and we need to stick with hard work and drive to ensure that these hopes become a reality in the long run.” “At the corporate level, I hope that Alba continues its leading position in the Aluminium industry and completes Line 6 expansion project within the agreed time frame. Also, I hope that the company adds more achievements to its impressive record in HR development, safety management and the adaptation of the latest Technological advancements in the field of smelting”.On the personal level, Hasan plans to aim for a higher level of scholastic achievement and take part in more training courses that will help in carrying out his job duties in the most effective manner. He also wishes to meet his family’s requirements and provide them with the best parental care so that his children can achieve the highest academic success for a brighter future.

It did not occur to him that one day he will be fan of this sport, or event be attacked the thrill and sense of adventure that it can provide.As with many of his peers and the majority of people in Bahrain, fishing is a very popular pass time hobby, and he used to spend his free time near a fishing location with the appropriate fishing gear and equipment. In the early 2000s, He was introduced to spear fishing and this was the start of a passion that began 16 years ago.This is how Yousif Juma Mubarak from Workshop Department started his spear fishing days: “I have learnt the secrets of this hobby from the past Training Manager Essa Khalil, who introduced me to this sport and pushed me towards adopting this new hobby.”“At the beginning, spearfishing seems to be a little odd to me, as I knew little about it, but with time, I got used to it and soon enough, it became my favourite activity in my free time.”Yousif continues: “this hobby combines the benefits of physical exercising as well as the thrill of diving, and anyone who wishes to practice it should be familiar with open water diving to be able to practice it in the original form just like it has been practices for thousands of years in the past.”Historically speaking, spear fishing began as a profession where divers used pointed wood sticks to catch the fish. But with time, it developed into a recreational activity that incorporates modern technological tools such as rubber bands, pneumatic launchers and pressed cylinders. Yousif usually practices spear fishing in the sea of Zallaq, the island of Jaradah and Hawar Islands. He also travels overseas to spear fish, namely in the Maldives and the Sultanate of Oman.He also points out that during spear fishing, they usually direct the tip of the spear to the body of the fish and avoid its head so that the fish can be taken out of the sea while still alive.When asked about the tools used, Yousif answers: “We usually use two types of spear guns: pressure gun and rubber gun. We also, use oxygen cylinders for dives that go deeper that 8 meters in the sea. These tools are becoming more popular with hobbyists and lovers of this sport.As for Yousif, he believes that this sport helps in relieving stress

بالرم��ح" ومن هنا كان��ت البداية.هك��ذا ب��داأ يو�ش��ف جمع��ة مب��ارك املوظ��ف بدائ��رة الور��ش املركزي��ة حديث��ه معن��ا واأكم��ل : "تعلم��ت ه��ذه الهواي��ة م��ن املدي��ر ال�ش��ابق لدائ��رة التدريب يف ال�ش��ركة الأ�ش��تاذ عي�ش��ى خلي��ل، وه��و م��ن حببن��ي فيها وبف�شله تغ��ريت هوايتي من "احلداق" اإىل �شيد الأ�ش��ماك بوا�شطة الرمح". وي�شيف يو�شف: " يف بادئ الأمركانت تبدو يل اأنها هواية غريبة، اإذ مل اأعرف عنها اأي �شي من قبل، ولكني مع الوقت اعتدت عليها واأحببتها، بل وجعلتني

له��ا عل��ى كل الهوايات الأخرى". اأف�شّ ويتاب��ع يو�ش��ف حديث��ه قائال:"ه��ي هواي��ة جتم��ع ب��ني املتع��ة والريا�ش��ة، ولب��د ل��كل م��ن ي��ود ممار�ش��تها اأن يجي��د ريا�ش��ة الغو��ش، لأنه��ا تعتمد عل��ى الغو�ش يف البح��ار والأنهار بالدرج��ة الأوىل، كم��ا اأنه��ا طريق��ة قدمي��ة ل�شي��د الأ�ش��ماك حت��ت امل��اء، حي��ث كان��ت

ت�ش��تخدم يف جمي��ع اأنح��اء الع��امل لآلف ال�ش��نني".تاريخي��ا، ب��داأت مهن��ة �شي��د الأ�ش��ماك بالرم��ح با�ش��تخدام الع�ش��ي املدبب��ة. وم��ع م��رور ال�شنني تطور هذا الأمر لت�شبح ريا�شة، ت�شتخدم يف �شكلها احلديث اأ�شرطة مطاطية

ثقيلة اأو غاز م�شغوط لت�ش��غيل م�شد�ش��ات الرماح اأ�ش��فل املاء.وي�شي��ف يو�ش��ف اأن��ه ع��ادة م��ا ميار��ش ه��ذه الهواي��ة يف بح��ر ال��زلق وقطع��ة وج��رادة وجزر حوار، كما اأنه �شافر خارج البحرين، وحتديدا يف بحر جزر املالديف وبحرعمان

لال�ش��تمتاع مبمار�ش��ة هذه الهواية.ويو�شح يو�ش��ف اأنهم خالل �شيدهم لالأ�ش��ماك يقومون بالرتكيز على ج�ش��م الأ�ش��ماك

وجتنب الراأ�ش حتى يت�شنى لهم اإخراج ال�شمكة من البحر وهي لزالت حية.وب�ش��وؤالنا ل��ه ع��ن الأدوات الت��ي ي�ش��تخدمها يف ه��ذه الهواي��ة يق��ول يو�ش��ف : "نق��وم با�ش��تعمال نوع��ني م��ن البن��ادق وهم��ا : بندقي��ة ال�شغ��ط والبندقي��ة املطاطي��ة، كم��ا اأنن��ا نقوم با�شتخدام اأ�شطوانات الأك�شجني يف حال كان العمق الذي نود الغو�ش فيه يتجاوز

Method (45 min)

Put the chicken pieces in a saucepan and pour enough water over the pieces to cover them. Place the saucepan over medium heat. When the water boils, reduce heat and remove the fatty liquid on the top.

• Fry the onions and garlic with oil in a saucepan over medium heat until they turn golden then add in the rice, tomatoes, green pepper and coriander. Stir the ingredients well.

• Add the rice and vegetables mixture to the saucepan then add the tomato paste, pepper and salt. Stir often so that the rice won’t stick in the bottom of the saucepan and the ingredients get mixed well.

• When the ingredients start to boil, cover the saucepan tightly and leave over low heat until the chicken is cooked. You can add more hot water and salt if the rice hasn’t cooked or softened yet.

• Hit the ingredients with a wooden spoon towards the sides of the saucepan (that’s why it is called Madrouba, which comes from the word “hit” in arabic) until the chicken combines with rice and all the ingredients become mashed and homogeneous. You can use a typical “madrab” or wooden garlic crusher instead of the wooden spoon.

• Pour the Madrouba in a serving bowl and serve hot.

مع حتريك املكونات ب�شكل جيد اإ�شافة خليط الأرز واخل�شروات اإىل القدر اإىل •

جانب �شل�شة الطماطم، امللح والفلفل مع حتريك وخلط املكونات ب�شكل م�شتمر حتى ل يلت�شق الأرز بقاع القدر عندما تبداأ املكونات يف الغليان، تتم تغطية القدر •

باإحكام ويرتك على نار هادئة حتى ين�شج الدجاج. بالإمكان اإ�شافة املزيد من املاء ال�شاخن وامللح يف حال

مل يلني الأرز بال�شكل املطلوب يتم "�شرب" املكونات جيدا با�شتخدام ملعقة •

خ�شبية كبرية نحو جوانب القدر ليختلط الدجاج مع الأرز وباقي املكونات اإىل اأن يت�شكل مزيج مهرو�ش

ومتجان�ش – ميكن اأي�شا ا�شتخدام مطحنة ثوم خ�شبية يف حال عدم توفر امللعقة

• 1 kg chicken breast, cut into

small pieces

• 2 cups Egyptian rice

• 4 tomatoes, finely chopped

• 2 large onions, chopped

• 1/2 cup fresh coriander, minced

• 1 green pepper

• 2 garlic cloves, crushed

• 4 tablespoons vegetable oil

• 2 tablespoons tomato paste

• 1 tablespoon gulf spices, a mix

of spices known as ‘bharat

khalijiyah’

• 1 tablespoon dried lemon

(loumi) powder

• Salt and pepper

• Pinch of cinnamon
