Hi folks, We walked a section of the Pacific Crest Trail from near the Dee Wright Observatory on the old Mackenzie Highway 242 (a 2-1/2 hr. drive from Albany). The walk goes South doing a 10km loop around North and South Matthieu Lakes. This is a moderate hike, with a 500 ft. elevation change. South Matthieu Lake is the best swimming Lake in the Cascades. This is a pre walk of a tentative walk challenge for 2019, which will include other walks on the PCT. For more details.Cell: 541-974-5780. See you on the trail,
Don Reed, President Albany Fitwalkers [email protected]

Tale and Photos Rozy
Cruising in Russia
Thursday, August 9, 2018 8:57 PM:
Good Morning! Dobre Utra Jim and I are on the river between Moscow and Uglich. We are currently "locked up"...in one of 18 depth changes in the canals and rivers between here and St. Petersburg. This Walking Adventure is Great!! Great walks and sights in Helsinki and Moscow so far. It is about 6:30 our time..about 8:30 PM on the West Coast! We visited the Kremlin and Red Square without a problem. One surprise was how
clean Moscow is. They send big trucks shooting water to clean the streets...and sometimes the walkers on the sidewalks!! No litter left around. And we have had good weather, not too hot or cold. This is my first time on the internet. Hope all is well with all of you. Rozy and Jim

AVA Community Events
(ACE Events) Ready for Oct.
ACE events are non-IVV events approved by
the National Executive Council last September.
The new brand of AVA events support IVV
events by allowing clubs to create events that
are not restricted by IVV guidelines and more
responsive to local community needs.
ACE Events fall into the following three
classifications:
ACE-Y (Youth Community Events) – These events caters to clubs working with
youth in elementary, middle and high school.
Online accessibility of information is limited to
protect the identity and well-being of minors
who participate.
ACE-T (Traditional Community
Events) – These events do not have to be
designed according to IVV guidelines. They
allow clubs to customize community events in
their regions where an IVV event is not
possible due to constraints of IVV guidelines
and thus drawing more participation.
ACE-WG (Weekday Guided
Community Events) – These events are
designed to encourage weekly participation on
a regular basis. Fun walks, guided walks, meet
ups, etc., are examples of events that could fall
into this category. Individual maps are not be
required if there is a guide on the walk and all
participants follow the guide.
More information on the sanctioning process,
event guidelines and fees will be in the August
& September Checkpoint. Note because these
events are not required to adhere to IVV
guidelines.
