Local businesses and communityorganizations donated time, money and material to ensure that this projectwould be a success. The pavilion illustrates the devastation of the 2003Okanagan Mountain Fire and serves a dual purpose. The structure acts as agathering place for public and private events. It also serves as a publiceducation centre to raise awareness of the impact of the Fire, the MountainPine Beetle and the fragile nature of the woodland setting in which it issituated. The design concept was conceived as a journey through the Okana-gan Mountain Park and created a path representing the forests lifecycle, naturally occurring environmental impacts and the resulting rejuvenation ofthe forest. Its focus is on the surrounding environment and treats the struc-ture as an integral part of the forest. The pavilion functions in unison withnature and the structure is fully engaged with the landscape. 9.
