Reading is not just about reading books; it’s about being
able to read everything you see.
For example; magazines, newspapers, letters, greeting
cards, leaflets, menus, road signs, banners etc. So next
time you see something interesting that you read, come
home and draw it or write about in your scrap book. If
you were able to pick something up like a menu, leaflet or
article; stick it in your scrap book. Discuss your findings
with your parents.
Write on a piece of paper and stick in your scrap books;
Who was your favorite character and why?
Retell the story in your own words.
What problems did the characters face in the story
and how did they solve the problems?
What was your favorite part of the story?
Did any of the characters do anything wrong?
What was the reason for their action?
What would you like to ask the characters?
Did you like the story or not? Explain why?
5. Word Detective 6. I am an author
Whenever you read; you will always find words which
you don’t understand. So, jot them down and look them
up in the dictionary. If you still don’t understand, try
looking for a synonym for that word which may help you.
But remember synonyms cannot always replace that word.
Nouns, proper nous (always begin with a capital letter),
verbs, adverbs, homophones and adjectives. After reading
your story, try remembering these words and jot them
down.
You’ve worked really hard all summer, reading stories and
collecting all that fabulous information. So, Let’s put it all
to use.
You will be an author and write your own story; Think
about all the stories you read and look through the things
you have gathered in your scrap book for inspiration.
Now, sit and think carefully how to begin your story, what
could be the middle and then the end. Think about the
moral. Present the story as a book with illustrations. Don’t
forget to bring your scrap book and story to school.
