Khandaleisalsoveryfamousforwhiteonions,whicharesoldalloverMaharashtraas"KhandaleKande".ThisuniquebreedofonionsarehavingveryrichcontributionsinAyurvedikmedicinesandveryusefulduringsummerheatwhichishavinguniquesweetertaste.Rewdanda,Chaul,Nagon,Akshi,Varsoli,Thal,KihimandAawasvillageswereknownas"Ashtagare"atthattime.DuringthosetimesthereweresomenavalbattlesoutofwhichonewasfoughtatVarsolibetweenKanhojiAangreandSiddiofJanjiraintheyear1706.In1722EnglishandPortuguesejointlyattackedonKulabafortandtheylostthiswar.AtChaultherewasabattlebetweentheEnglishandSakhojiin1730.SakhojiwonthiswarandbroughtdownthelosingpartyalongwiththeircaptainatKulaba.KanhojievenissuedhisowncurrencyintheformofasilvercoincalledtheAlibagirupaiya.AlibaaGhanditssurroundingvillagesarethehistorichinterlandofBeneIsraeliJews.Thereisasynagogueinthe"IsraelAli"(MarathimeaningIsraellane)areaofthetown.

AlibagalsohousesaMagneticObservatorywhichwassetupin1904.ItservesasoneofthesignificantobservatoriesformingpartofaglobalnetworknowrunbyIndianInstituteofGeomagnetism.TheobservatoryhastwobuildingsthefirstbuildinghasmagnetometersthatrecordchangesoccurringintheGeomagneticfields.Thesecondbuildingconsistsofprecisionrecordinginstruments,whichgivedataaboutgeomagneticstormscausedbysolarstormswhichissharedwithdifferentcountries.ItisfromyearsthattheAlibagRegionandRaigaddistrictinallisheadedandruledbytheBhartiyaShetkariKamgarPaksha(PeasantsandWorkersPartyofIndia).
