Tel Aviv is the second largest city in the great land of Israel. The city got its name through its literal meaning in hebrew. Aviv is Hebrew for “spring”, symbolizing renewal, and tel is an archaeological site that reveals layers of civilization built one over the other.
The Bahai Shrine and Gardens is located in Haifa, northern Israel. Haifa is the international headquarters for the Baha’i Faith, which began amidst persecution in Persia in the mid- 19th century. Baha’is believe in the unity of all religions and believe that messengers of God like Moses, Jesus and Muhammad have been sent at different times in history with doctrines varying to fit changing social needs, but bringing substantially the same message.

Caesarea is a town located halfway between Haifa and Tel Aviv. and along the Mediterranean coast. It was built on the ruins of Stratonospyrgos (Straton’s Tower). Straton’s Tower remained a Jewish city for two generations, until the Roman conquest of 63 BCE when the Romans declared it an autonomous city. The pagan city underwent vast changes under Herod the Great, who renamed it Caesarea in honor of the Roman emperor, Caesar Augustus. Caesarea, in modern times, is home to many who must commute to Tel Aviv or Haifa for work. The Roman theatre, located at the site, often hosts concerts by major Israeli and international artists.

The Western Wall, or the wailing wall, also known as the Kotel is a sacred place for the jewish people. Jewish tradition teaches that the Western Wall was built by King David and that the wall we see today is built upon his foundations, which date from the time of the First Temple. The Western Wall is marked as the sole remnant of the Holy Temple. It has become a place of pilgrimage for Jews, as it is the closest permitted accessible site to the holiest spot in Judaism, which lies on the Temple Mount (the home for the Dome of the Rock). Most Jewish individuals come to the wall several times throughout the year to pray, depending on how religious they are, they pray more often.

Camels can be found everywhere in Israel where there is desert. They are definitely not the staple animal of Israel, but they are seen throughout the landscape. Many camels can be spotted in the Negev desert. The Negev covers more than half of Israel and it forms an inverted triangle shape whose western side is contiguous with the desert of the Sinai Peninsula.

The Dead Sea allows one to float above the water. It is a salt lake bordering Israel and the West Bank to the west, and Jordan to the east. Many people believe that the mud of the Dead Sea has special healing and cosmetic uses. The sea is called “dead” because its high salinity prevents macroscopic aquatic organisms, such as fish and aquatic plants, from living in it.

The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine and major landmark located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Many Orthodox rabbis regard entry to the compound to be a violation of Jewish law. This is based on the belief that it is the location where the Holy Temple was destroyed during the siege of Jerusalem.

Givat Hamatos is a nomad village close to Talpiyot. Individuals who first move to Israel, without making aliya, find home on this hill, and make shack-like housing to live in. They eventually move to different homes later on once they find work and can afford the expenses of living in Israel. Individuals who come to Israel after making aliya however, have many benefits, help finding a job is one, and compensation for housing is another.
