All About the Primary Stage December 2018
What's inside?
Dear AA community, we are delighted to share with you some of our highlights during the past
two months. We have enjoyed fun celebrations to promote awareness, showcased presentation
and communication skills, welcomed opportunities to learn about new cultures, embraced active
learning engagements, implemented different strategies and acknowledged our achievements.
Learners successfully embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes and PYP attitudes inside and
outside the classroom. Enjoy looking through our journey!
International Day
In honor of Children's Universal day, our students celebrated International Day by spending a month
learning, researching and reflecting on their class’s chosen country as it relates to their unit, and
finally came up with their own learning outcome or project that they gave to their parents.
Grades 1 and 2 enjoyed a puppet show related to the different countries chosen by some classes.
Grades 3-5 enjoyed a short dance show from around the globe.
History of Dance Show -Grade 2
The primary stage invited family and friends to a delightful production by our grade two learners
entitled “History of Dance”. Our young learners exhibited some of the skills they have been working
on in a beautiful performance in the school’s main theater.
The Little Prince - Grade 1 Showcase
We are very proud of our learners who have worked very hard over the past several weeks to exhibit
their confidence and communication skills in a wonderful performance to their parents!
Petting Zoo - Grade 1
Grade one students had the chance to pet and feed some animals in the school’s greenfield. It was a
great way for kids to get up close and personal as well as learn more about animal care. It ’s also a
great sensory based experience!
Alchemist Lab
Throughout a fun experiment, grade two students learnt about extinction, how to identify animals
using fossils and how to make a model of earth. Our learners also enjoyed a virtual reality station.
"Adopt an Angel" Campaign
Adopt an Angel” campaign has been organized where a community center under the name of “Al
Hadaf” were asked to share a list of children’s names with their special wish list to Santa. The angels’
names and letters to Santa were hung on a customized wooden Christmas tree, and members of the
AA community were given the chance to “Adopt an Angel” and purchase the items on their angel’s
wish list.

Morning Assemblies
Our morning assemblies encourage learners to exhibit their presentation and communication skills
by sharing new ideas and information on a weekly basis. They also include guest speakers,
presentations and fitness.
During the past two months, we started implementing meditation, breathing exercises and yoga with
the learners during assemblies. Amman Academy strongly believes that meditation improves our
learners’ well-being. It gives our young learners a chance to understand their bodies, listen to their
minds by breathing, imagining, and being aware of how they feel. Our learners enjoyed applying
these techniques to improve their memory and concentration!

Primary Clubs
The primary stage clubs offered provide an environment of happier children, promoting healthy
hobbies and expanding horizons. Each semester a range of different clubs are offered to our students.
The club sessions are held from Sunday through Wednesday.

Sports Achievements
Around 150 students participated in the football 'Little League' tournament. The teams had two
training sessions every week and played matches during the weekend, they were also supervised by
specialist coaches.
The students were also offered various after-school sports activities. Through engagement in the
sport activities, our learners enhanced their leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills.
Way to go champs!
Primary Media Center
Focusing on the primary media center as the hub for all learners, a weekly program was created
where the learners initiate the ideas for each week.
Challenging, Relevant, Engaging and Significant (CRES) learning
engagements through the inquiry cycle
Guided by the inquiry cycle, our little inquirers engaged in diverse learning activities that stimulated
their brains and activated their PYP attitudes, IB learner profile attributes and transdisciplinary skills.
Our learners exhibited their exceptional ability to reach conclusions and take action.
2 - Tuning In: As part of their inquiry, learners played a game of tug-of-war to inquire into balanced and unbalanced forces.
3 - Finding Out: In order to further improve their research skills and in integration with ICT, grade 3 learners explored the different layers of planet Earth using various means and tools.
4 - Sorting Out: Learners from grade 3 sorted out the correct consonant blends.
5 - Sorting Out: Grade 1 learners were given two Hula Hoops as well as different models of living and non-living things to sort them out, one Hula Hoop for living things and the other for non-living things.
6 - Going Further: Learners had a gallery walk where they walked around grade 5 classrooms to observe the different
cultures on their bulletin boards. They recorded their data on reflection sheets while doing so.
7 - Going Further: In integration with ICT, grade 5 learners used their research skills to collect data about different poets. They worked hand in hand to create this Poet-Tree in connection to their English unit “Poetry”.
8 - Making Conclusions: Learners used their thinking skills and self-management skills to create a DNA model out of licorice and marshmallows.
9 - Taking Action: Our grade 2 learners took action as part of their responsibility towards the environment and living things.
10 - As a part of their Migration Unit under the theme ‘Where we are in place and time’, learners visited the Migration Museum inside of school. Learners were given the opportunity to fill it with artifacts from home, research about
migration, and stories of migrants. There they were able to inquire more about the unit and find answers to their inquiries through their visit.
Christmas Celebrations
Learners from grades 1 and 2 celebrated Christmas with a wonderful, entertaining show by Meshow.
Grades 3 and 4 students watched a Christmas movie while snacking on some popcorn and fresh juice. Of course, all our learners got to try the Christmas chocolates and cookies from Santa!
