W elcome to the 10th Annual Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships! We hope

you enjoy some of the finest BBQ that River City has to offer. It’s hard to believe it

has been ten years since we first held this event with 19 teams at the Firefighter Tower. How

time has flown. But as much as the contest has changed, one thing has remained the same:

our cause.

Proceeds from the contest fund a scholarship in memory of Glyn Stanton Cook, a

longtime board member and former Chairman of the Board of the Daniel Foundation. Every

year, scholarships in Glyn’s memory are awarded to deserving Daniel kids for higher education

expenses. Each recipient must complete Daniel’s “Project Prepare” program and present their

application to the Executive Committee of the Scholarship Fund. Since its inception, over

$100,000 has been awarded to help formerly homeless kids further their education.

Daniel, founded in 1884, is the oldest child service agency in the state of Florida. On

any given day, Daniel serves over 2,000 abandoned, abused or neglected children. Daniel is

also the largest adoption placement agency in Florida and recently opened a new education

center on campus to serve children in need.
