ATTENDANCE Term 1 - 91.9% Term 2 - 88.5% Last Week - 82.5% Year To Date 89.9%

On Tuesday the 3rd

of July our school experienced a truly “Stellar” occurrence. “Off this Planet” visited the school with their inflatable dome and resources displaying NASA’s exploration of our Solar System and beyond.

Our Reception to Year 8 classes went to the “Off this Planet” incursion in the gym and enjoyed many experiences. Students observed a projection of how day and night occurs across the ceiling of the big dome, stars and constellations were also projected onto the dome and we were shown how to locate and observe some of the planets in our Solar System without using telescopes.

Recounts from some of our students:

“It was in the gym and there was an inflatable dome and air was holding it up. To get inside the dome you had to squeeze through a tiny gap. I felt like I was an adventurer going inside a cave. It was so fun and dark.”

“There was a big dome set up in the gym. We had to squeeze through a small doorway/gap to get in. Inside it was dark and quiet. We had to look up at the ceiling, where there was a big screen that showed us the stars and constellations.”

“We learned how day and night occurs from the rotation of the Earth. We learnt how humans have explored our

Solar System including sending astronauts to the moon and robots to other planets.”

Merrick Miller STEM Camp

During the holidays, Merrick Miller attended a five-day residential program involving a mix of hands-on STEM experiences, visits to leading South Australian research centres, science games, talks and workshops with more than 100 budding scientists. ‘I decided to come on camp as one of my mates, (Luke Bald) went on camp last year and said it was really good. I especially liked the visit to UniSA and the camp has solidified my interest in studying architecture after high school’ - Merrick Miller

On Friday July 6, the Allendale Gym was the site of the inaugural Parents versus Students Night. The students were excited, the parents were secretly excited and the battleground was set. Five different challenges were embarked on by both sides, varying from memory games and basketball shoot outs, right up to bean bag toss and pantyhose skittles. In the end it was the parents who showed the grit and determination required to take out such a challenge, with the final score reading -

Students : 2 Parents : 3 Thank you to all who came along and showed your support. It was a fantastic night and I know the students thoroughly enjoyed it. There is already a whisper that the group are keen on some redemption ….. Mark Rumbelow & Alex Pfeiffer
