ve inWelcome to the Allerton Church of England Primary School community, a caring primary school dedicated to supporting children aged 2 to 11 on their journey to academic achievement.

We provide our pupils with a perfect combination: dedicated, hard-working teachers, top quality facilities, academic excellence and first-class enrichment activities.

Allerton CE Primary School is a faith school and we welcome children of all faiths and children of none. We have established a diverse community here where all pupils are cherished.

Our school has excellent facilities, surrounded by extensive grounds, which we love to explore and make use of. We bring the curriculum to life through our beautiful surroundings and a wide range of enrichment activities, encouraging our pupils to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Pupils say that they feel happy and relaxed at school and everyone flourishes in our warm and vibrant school environment. It is important to us that pupils enjoy their time here and feel safe within our school walls. When these things come together, children are most likely to work hard and make good progress.

Although Allerton CE Primary School is a big school, it feels like a small, close-knit community. We believe it’s because the school has grown slowly over time and we’ve kept the importance of community close to our heart.

Everyone is known as an

individual and pupils’ diverse

backgrounds and heritage are truly valued.

Academic. Aspirations. Achieve. The reason we’re here is to equip children to become learners. Allerton CE Primary School is a stimulating and structured environment dedicated to giving children a strong work ethic and developing pride in their achievements.

Our broad curriculum helps to capture the interests of our children so they enjoy working hard and finding out new things. Our team of well trained, knowledgeable teaching staff launch new topics with a hook for learning and encourage children to ask questions and get involved.

Our highly effective teaching is tailored to each child and we challenge and support every pupil according to their level of ability, dif ferent interests and ways of learning. We believe this encourages their unique talents to flourish.

Additional provision is made for children who are Gifted and Talented or have Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND). We know that every child can achieve to the highest of their ability while enjoying their journey through school.

In the Nursery and Reception, children make good progress as they start to develop the tools for learning that will help them through their education. This progress is continued through the rest of the school where we help them build on these strong foundations, introducing new subjects and working hard on reading, writing, communication and Maths.

By the time our pupils move on to secondary school, they are ready to take on a fresh challenge and step up to the next level of education.

All teachers have good subject knowledge, provide a creative

and vibrant learning environment and build

excellent working relationships.

The teachers have high expectations and push us hard, but not beyond what we are capable of. Being pushed is good

for us, as it gives us a target to aspire to. If it was easy, we wouldn’t be learning.

A child’s academic development is at the heart of Allerton CE Primary School and we believe that the enrichment activities we offer boost the enthusiasm our pupils have for learning.

School is not just about what pupils learn in the classroom – the experiences they have here help to create well-rounded individuals. With this in mind, our programme of enrichment activities is designed to inspire our pupils and set in motion a passion for learning that will last them a lifetime.

Our extra-curricular clubs have included Science, Imagineering, ICT, table-tennis, Young Voices Choir, Art, Street Dance, G+T Maths, Writing, gardening, cookery, chess club and many others. We also offer a range of sporting opportunities, including our increasingly successful football team. We have a full-time PE coach and all pupils enjoy using our Multi-Use Games Area.

As an Artsmark Gold school, the Arts are an integral part of who we are. Involvement builds confidence and our partnership with an Arts charity, Space 2, enables us to provide outstanding artists who encourage pupils to get involved with dance,

performance and poetry. They also have the chance to learn musical instruments from specialist teachers and the whole school comes together to sing.

Computing and technology is brought to life through opportunities including film-making, animation, blogs, podcasts and links with our local high school as well as up-to-date high-tech equipment.

Our pupils are taken on a variety of trips, which include the art gallery, literary festivals, chess and Maths competitions, theatre productions and places of worship. These help reinforce what they are learning as part of their curriculum. We believe that outdoor learning is key to a child’s development and the activities that take place in our extensive grounds include gardening, keeping chickens and growing produce which we use to cook with. Each class has its own tree.

We have been recognised for our commitment to exciting and inspiring enrichment activities and we have been awarded the following: Artsmark Gold, Fair trade School, Healthy School, Sustainable School and Forest School.

Nurture. Communication. Respect. As teachers, we’re committed to discovering what makes each child special and unique and how best to encourage them to learn. The strong relationships between our staff and our pupils sets our school apart from others.

Pupils say that they feel genuinely cared for and that the teachers feel like members of their families. Staff go out of their way to help the children in any way they can and work together with parents to help the pupils achieve their best.

Communication is key to success at school – and through life – so children are taught how to communicate effectively. We have a Speech and Language Therapist on site to help where necessary. We want each pupil to have a voice and to develop the confidence in themselves to make their voices heard and make a difference – whether this is through the School Council, a focus group or every day in the classroom.

We encourage our pupils to look after themselves well through healthy eating, whilst also focusing on their social, emotional and physical well-being.

The Christian values of the school become second nature to the children early on, which helps to encourage good behaviour throughout the school. Our behaviour system is based on forgiveness. Systems are clear throughout school, with positive behaviour and achievements recognised and celebrated.

It has been a privilege for our child to attend Allerton CE

Primary School. We will always be grateful for the school’s nurturing environment and

excellent education standard.Parent

Christian values underpin and drive the life and

work of this school and each child is seen as unique and special.

ve inCommunity. Partnership. Faith. The sense of community is central to our school and, for our pupils, community works on many levels.

It begins with the individual and what they can offer to themselves, to their class, to the school, to the wider community, to Leeds as a city and to the world. We are preparing Allerton CE Primary School pupils to be citizens of the world and we want them to understand the importance of the part they play. School uniform helps pupils to feel a part of the school community.

We encourage the children to take pride in being a part of this vibrant and diverse city. Classes visit various parts of Leeds, using public transport, to develop their life skills.

We have links with other local primary and secondary schools as well as organising visits to local universities so that pupils can start to think about where their educational journey might lead. We have also developed global, national and local links, so pupils feel a part of the worldwide community and start to understand the differences and similarities in the lives of children.

Our school shares a site with Alwoodley Children’s Centre so we have developed a strong working partnership and pupils are often familiar with the school setting before they start, helping them to settle in quickly.

We have a close relationship with a local elderly care group, whose members are welcomed as part of our school family. They come into school to read with our children, share stories, attend assemblies and Christmas performances. The children make and send them birthday cards.

Being a Church of England school, the wider faith community is important to us and the Christian values are embedded in our own values. The local clergy are regular visitors and we also arrange for the children to visit local places of worship.

The school is a friendly and inclusive community where pupils get on well with each other and discrimination of

any kind is not tolerated. Ofsted
