Allergies and Hay Fever

Homoeopathy treats allergies by stimulating and strengthening the organism to address the

hypersensitivity that causes such a dramatic inflammatory response.

The result is greater resilience and an ability to withstand a wide variety

of environments by responding appropriately in each situation.

There are many common substances to which people may develop an

allergic response, including: Foods such as wheat (gluten), milk and dairy, seafood (shellfish),

alcohol, soy, eggs, peanuts and certain vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants). Common

environmental factors such as dust, pollen, mould, animal fur, dust mites and sunlight. Various

natural or synthetic substances such as latex, nickel, pesticides, medications, venom from animal

stings (bees, wasps).

We also come into contact with many substances to which we are not physiologically adapted.

They may be overused, synthetic or strongly modified and in that case it’s not just personal

sensitivity but also contact with the substance that should be reviewed.

Healing allergic symptoms involves eliminating sensitivity by strengthening the overall function of

and repairing the immune system. You can use acute remedies to address the symptoms as they

occur and consider constitutional treatment with a homoeopath to address the deeper imbalance.

Consider these remedies or our Hay Fever complex:

Apis: Symptoms come on suddenly with burning, stinging pains, oedematous swellings and

acute inflammation. The pain is relieved by cold.

Allium: Colds and hay fever associated with violent sneezing and acrid discharge that corrodes

the nose and lips and a profuse, bland discharge from the eyes. There may be a hacking cough

in cold air that hurts the larynx.

Arsenicum: People who are highly sensitive to many foods and substances and respond to

them by feeling restless, anxious, ill and exhausted.

Euphrasia: Bland nasal discharge, worse lying down. The eye discharge stings and is irritating

and the eyes feel like sandpaper.

Gelsemium: Allergy reactions with flu-like symptoms—weakness, trembling, aching muscles,

droopy-looking eyes, and chills along the spine. Headache and neck pain are common.

Nat mur: Reaction to allergens producing headaches, mouth sores, hay fever symptoms,

respiratory problems, back pain, or fatigue. Introspective and serious.

Nux vomica: Is indicated for allergies in irritated and impatient individuals. They are easily

chilled and sneeze frequently. The mucous flows well during the day but becomes clogged up

when inside at night.

Pulsatilla: They want company and sympathy when ill; prefer cool rooms or being in the fresh

air. Worse lying down in a warm room. Mucous is thick and bland.

Sulph acid: Intense sensitivity to fumes and environmental toxins. Frantic, hurried feeling,

scatterbrained and forgetful.

Fact Sheets: Download and print our Hay Fever & Spring Allergies and Sinusitis fact

sheets or refer to the Owen book or eBook Homoeopathy for the Home Prescriber, to select remedies for specific symptoms.
