Some Statistics about Absenteeism in Canada• In 2015, the average absence rate among Canadian organizations was
8.9 days per year which is down from 9.3 in 2011• Private sector organizations saw a lower level of work absences (7.8
days) than the Public Sector (12.7 Days)• Unionized Employees had higher work absence rates than those who
were non-unionized 13.1 Days per year, compared with 7 days respectively.
• The public sector is 75% unionized• The highest rate of absenteeism in Canada is in the health care and
social assistance sector at 14 days per employee per year….a 57% increase over the national average!
