Dear Mater Dei Catholic Parents,

As a school community, we are constantlychallenging ourselves to improve ourpractices. Last week, Mr. Stingo, Mrs. Oseguera(MDJDA), Ms. Saavedra and I went to visit oursister school, Juan Diego Catholic Schools, in Draper Utah. Juan Diego is aK-12 Catholic School that is supported by the same foundation thatsupports MDCHS. In just two years, we will be the first TK-12 CatholicSchool in San Diego County. We met with their school leadership todiscuss the logistics of having multiple schools on one campus. JuanDiego Catholic has done a wonderful job in creating a “Culture of Kindness”on their campus. They also have a robust mentor program for all of theirstudents. In the months ahead, we will continue to explore ways in whichwe can better support our students on a more personal level. Now, morethan ever, students need role models that they can trust and look foradvice.

Congratulations to our drama students who debuted in the fall production,Almost, Maine. Thank you to all of the families and friends who came tosupport the cast!

This week, we have many celebrations going on. Beginning Wednesday,students, faculty and staff are participating in the Dia de los Muertos Altarcontest. Judging will take place on Thursday, October 31. On Thursday, wewill also celebrate Halloween with a costume contest (see the flyer outlining

appropriate dress for this event below). On Friday, November 1, we willhave an all-school Mass to celebrate All Saints Day. Both the high schooland MDJDA will come together for this celebration. On November 7, we will be hosting our 8th Grade Visit for our local CatholicSchools. This event will be similar to our Open House. It brings me greatjoy to have our entire community come together to showcase all of thewonderful things that Mater Dei has to offer. We are truly becoming ThePlace to Be. Lastly, on November 19, we will be hosting our first annual Giving Tuesdayfundraising event. Our goal for the day is to raise $100,000. Our students,faculty and staff have committed to taking turns running around our trackfrom 8:30am – 2:30pm. UNIVERSITY VISITS THIS WEEK

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS AND SENIOR STUDENTS

Seniors, if you are applying to a California State University and have not startedyour application yet, please do so. Both California State applications and UCapplications are due no later than November 30, 2019. Private universities havetheir own deadlines. Please pay close attention to all university deadlines.

Before you begin your application on www.calstate.edu/apply, make sure to havethe following items on hand:

Unofficial transcripts. You'll be asked to enter all courses you've completed,those currently in progress, and any you plan to take prior to high schoolgraduation. Courses taken during the first semester of your senior yearshould be listed as IP (In Progress) on your Cal State application andcourses taken during the second semester of your senior year, should belisted as P (Planned) on your Cal State application.Test scores (SAT, ACT, AP or IB). Report test results of tests that you havetaken up to this point and note any future tests that you plan on taking.Your Social Security Number, if you have one.Your citizenship status.Credit card. Application fees are due at the time of submission and arepaid by credit card.Annual income. If you are a dependent, then report your parent’s income onyour application.If you are applying to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), thenyou’ll need your parent's employment background and tworecommendations. Please do not forget to give your recommender a copyof your resume.

Sports Physicals

Parents in Prayer

All are welcome to come and pray theRosary every Monday at 9:00am for ourchildren, families, faculty, administration,staff, and anyone in the community in need ofprayer. Rosaries and instructions areavailable for use. Please check in at the frontoffice. Dia de los Muertos Altar Contest

The Club Latino americano will have a Dia delos Muertos Altar contest. Set up will be onWednesday, October 30. Winners will be selectedat the end of the day on Thursday, October 31.

This past weekend the performing arts department performed Almost, Maine to acrowd of over 300 fans. MDCHS Director of VAPA Leslee Myers said, “I am sothankful for each of the students involved and look forward to working on ourspring show in the coming months!"

Mater Dei’s Gaming Esports team defeated Yucca Valley High School tocomplete a 4-0 record in League of Nations. We are #1 in our league!

Lady Crusader Golf Team Wins Mesa League!

Congratulations to the Lady Crusader Golf Team who earned all six 1st Team AllMesa League Honors with Lady Crusader seniors; Jessica Moreno Reyes,Ivanna Montemayor, Mariana Garcia Rosette; Lady Crusader juniors EstibalyGarcia, Montserrat Ramirez; and Lady Crusader sophomore Daniela Burgos.Lady Crusader Montserrat Ramirez earned Player of the Year Runner Up Honorsand Estibaly Garcia was the Mesa League Lady Golfer of the Year. Way to go!

Women's Volleyball Ranked #1 in Division

As the season comes to a close, Lady Crusaders Volleyball Team is ranked #1 inDivision 3. Playoffs start this week. Good luck ladies!
