Michael Sirignano 09, WF 11 After graduating from Wake Forest in May 2011, Mike accepted a position at The Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital, MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a research technician in Dr. Marcus Altfeld's lab. The institute focuses on HIV research with an emphasis on effective vaccine development. Here, Brother Sirignano was involved in some exciting HIV research projects in collaboration with Dr. Timothy Henrich of Brigham & Womens Hospital. One of the more notable projects was a study on hematopoietic stem cell (bone marrow) transplant treatment and its effects on HIV-infected patients. After two great years at The Ragon Institute, Brother Sirignano was invited to join the Heinrich Pette Institute for Experimental Virology in Hamburg, Germany in a similar role where he is currently enjoying work and life abroad. Mike will remain there until August 2014, at which point he will enroll in a Master's program at the University of Cincinnati with plans to matriculate into medical school fall 2015.
