ForeverWhen I was young, I could run like

the wild wind. The warm air of summer sweeping

over my cheeks, and my long tawnyhair, flying with me across the softgreen grass.

I was, forever.I would play in a dream, a wild horse

I’d be, galloping pat the mesas, over thedry sands, looking for the grasslands. Iwas already bounding across.

I could be everywhere. When I was young, time meant

“always.”I could twirl on and on under a sunny,

golden sky and touch the birds with myfingertips. Lifting up into their softdown, I could soar with them, up andup I could do, anything.

When I was young and nimble, in thesummertime’s sun, playing in dreams.

I was “forever,” and thought, I alwayswould be.

More Beautiful! The question is asked, is there

anything more beautiful in life thana boy and girl clasping clean handsand a pure heart in the path ofmarriage? Can there be anythingmore beautiful than young love?

And the answer is given: Yes,there is a more beautiful thing. It isthe spectacle of an old woman andan old man finishing together onthat path. Their hands are gnarled, but still clasped together, theirfaces are wrinkled, but still theirhearts are bowed and tired. Theystill have that twinkle in their eyes, but they are still strong with loveand devotion for one another. Theirstill small steps are slower as theyseem to hold each other up. Yes,there is a more beautiful thing thanyoung love. It is two seniors, holding hands, still in love. It’s oldlove they still have for each other.
