DREAM Project9th Year

The Ninth Annual DREAM Project weekend is scheduled for July 22 and 23. The Weekend is a weekend of work, prayer, fellowship and fun. We start at 8 a.m. on Friday morning and conclude Saturday night at 5:30 with din-ner.

Anyone wishing to help can come for the entire time or a couple of hours, we are grateful for all who help. Meals and accommodations will be provided for all who attend.

The projects this year are:

- Repainting the statue of Mary in the courtyard. ($ donated by ACCW)

- Edging the sidewalks.

- Landscaping around the statue of Mary & baby Jesus. ($450)

- Build & stain new benches. ($310)

- Paint & stain “swing” benches. ($40)

- Seal cracks in driveway & parking lot. ($75)

- Paint window frames (exterior) in lower apartment & the north side of the north wing.

- Repair & paint wall around the Sacred Heart of Jesus. ($35)

- Mulch flower gardens & walking path.

- Replace plants around the Stations of the Cross. ($125)

- Clean carpets. ($100)

The DREAM Project also needs monetary donations to cover the costs of the projects, food for the workers and accommodations. The DREAM Fund is used not only for the DREAM Project Weekend, but helps when things break, need repair or just plain wear out. We are able to use the DREAM Fund instead of the operating acccount in these situations. Checks can be made out to AMRH with DREAM Project in the memo.

We hope you can help us on the 22nd & 23rd. If you can’t join us for the entire time, that’s ok, we need all the help we can get for as long as you are able or available. If you can’t make it that weekend, but still want to help, call AMRH and talk to Deacon Al, he always has projects that need to be completed.

If you want to help this year contact Dan after 5 pm at 319-232-1659 or [email protected]

“Mary--Mother of Jesus, Mother of Mercy”

Pope Francis has invited the Church to celebrate this Year of Mercy to give particular attention to God’s great gift of his me-ciful love & compassion that comes to us through his Son Jesus. What can the words & example of the Blessed V

RetreatsTwo Become One: Remarriage Program

September 24Congratulations on your engagement! The Catholic Church supports you as you prepare for your married life together. In addition to topics that all engaged couples need to discuss before marriage, couples entering a second mar-riage have special concerns (i.e., blending two families). The Archdiocese of Dubuque recognizes the need to address these issues for a successful second marriage.

The retreat will be held at American Martyrs Retreat House. For more information and to register go to the following:https://www.dbqarch.org/offices/family-life/marriage-preparation-program/remarriage-program/

“What’s Next? Journeying with Jesus.”

In the gospels Jesus would often invite his close friends to come apart awhile, to be alone with him. On this retreat he invites us to come apart a while with him, we say yes & we come just as we are. Like Mary we say, “Here I am Lord, do with me as you will. Come Holy Spirit. Before we take Jesus to our families, to others, to the world & into cyberspace we know we want to spend time with him in inner space. Je-sus is knocking at the door of our hearts. We want to open our hearts. Come Lord Jesus, come. We want to say ”Speak Lord your servant is listening.”

Msgr. Russell Bleich, the retreat director, grew up in Miller. He was ordained in 1960 & has served as an associate pas-tor, pastor, school Principal, Superintendent of Education & Episcopal Vicar for the Cedar Rapids Region. He is retired & serves in the Archdiocese as needs arise.

The retreat fee is $135 per person for the weekend. $25 deposit secures your reservation. The retreat starts at 8 pm Friday & ends Sunday after lunch.

To register or for questions, call 319-266-3543 or email [email protected].

From the Director

Over nine years ago Dan Rigel attended a retreat at Ameri-can Martyrs Retreat House and fell in love with the place. Dan has a background in maintenance and had a “Dream” for a weekend in which volunteers would donate their time, talent and treasure to fix up AMRH. He talked with Sr. Jeanine Kuhn (AMRH Director at the time) about his “Dream” and the DREAM Project Weekend was born.

Over the past nine years, hundreds of hours of work have been accomplished, thousands of dollars have been do-nated, countless prayers offered and many friendships have been forged. Lives have been changed and we had fun at the same time.

2017 will be the 10th year of the DREAM Project. So over the next year we will be planning the next DREAM Project and a celebration for all those who have work-ed, organized, prayed and donated to make AMRH a peaceful place of grace and prayer. We will keep you informed as plans progress.

I pray that you have a good summer and fall.

God Bless,Deacon Al Weber
