Leaf Rust
Symptoms Leaf rust Caused by fungus
Ravenillia emblice.Attack is after monsoon in September. Brown pustules appear on both fruits and leaves and finally these become dark brown to black. Affected fruits and leaves drop prematurely. Spray hexaconazole 1 ml per litre of water twice . First spray is given in the first week of September and second after 15 days.
Fruit Rot
Symptoms Fruit rot Caused by penicillium
fungus. Incidence of the disease is more during fruit maturity and during storage and transportation. Water-soaked spots on fruits, which swell and turn yellow, brown and finally black. The spots increase in size and show rotting symptoms. Fruits showing initial symptoms should be harvested and treated with 0.1 - 0.5 % borax or NaCl. During storage and transportation, infected fruits should be separated.
Blue mould
Symptoms It is caused by the
fungus Pencillium islandicum.
Brown patches with water soaked areas are formed and the fruit is ultimately covered with bluish green pustules. Hygienic storage and treatment with Borax and weak solution of sodium chloride have been suggested to control this.
Anthracnose Drepanopeziza ribis
Symptoms
Brown to black lesions on leaves which enlarge over time and may develop a purple margin; leaves turning yellow and dropping from plant; dark flecks on berries; berries may split and drop from plant
Botrytis dieback (Gray mold berry rot)Botrytis cinereaSymptoms
Gray fuzzy mould covering leaves and fruit; branches turning dark at tips and dying back; unripe fruit dropping from plant
Currant cane blight Botryosphaeria ribis
Symptoms
Sudden wilting and dying of scattered canes or whole bush; pith of cane discolored tan to black; canes may become hollow and snap from plant
Septoria leaf spot Mycosphaerella ribis
Symptoms
Symptoms on leaves are similar to anthracnose (see entry) but lesions develop a lighter center and the leaves drop from the plant
American gooseberry mildewSphaerotheca mors-uvae
Symptoms
Powdery, white patches on young leaves, stems and branch tips which kill patches of the leaf and cause leaf curling and deformation; fungal fruiting bodies may be visible in the patches as black dots; white patches may also appear on fruit and turns dark brown in color with a rough texture
White pine blister rustCronartium ribicola
Symptom Yellow spots that
develop into brown lesions on leaves; yellow fungal fruiting bodies on undersides of leaves; fibrous growth on infection sites.
