One definition of tolerance is “a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one’s own.”

It’s easy to respect people who you have a lot in common with, but respecting others’ right to think and be different is even more important.

Being tolerant requires patience and forgiveness. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. We should be especially tolerant of those we have a hard time getting along with.

Look for the good in others. Everyone has at least a few admirable qualities. Focus on finding those, not finding fault.

What a wonderful world it would be if we were all colorblind and race-“unconscious,” where the only thing we saw when we looked at others was love—the color of love.
