Digital Images for Education project

• JISC project to provide education community with high-resolution images for download. Procurement commenced January 2009.

• Independent team of evaluators selected: 8 still image collections - 56,000 still images 3 moving image collections – 500 hours of film Content focussed on post-1985 UK history from both

commercial and community collections• Still images currently in Education Image Gallery

(until 31 July 2011)• All image/video/audio content is now available to

multimedia services (EDINA handling migration of existing subscribers)

Usability testing by external agency and incremental changes

• August 2011 Next version of service officially launched New functions expected – including Advanced search,

Evolving collections policy

• Informed by JISC Collections community panels policy then agreed between EDINA, JISC and JISC

Collections

• Ensuring a good balance of content E.g. with sufficient scientific material; image/sound/video

content

• Representing interests of small and large collection owners prominent display of smaller collections APIs only for collection owners prepared to share metadata
