Why Pultrusion?

• Effective• The pultrusion process is one of the most effective methods for the production of

composite lineal profiles

• Efficient• It is a continuous automated process that produces little waste

• Excellent• It produces materials of consistent strength and uniform quality

• High Strength• 1-1/2 times the strength of structural rated fir lumber

• Superior Insulation• 37 times a better insulator than aluminum

• Light Weight• 30% lighter than aluminum

• Durable• Will not dent or deform like wood and aluminum

66

The Pultrusion Process

67

Reinforcement Dispensing

• Continuous fiberglass “rovings” are dispensed from center pull packages

• Porcelain eyelets eliminate static build-up and degradation of glass

• Fiberglass passes through a carding index that orients the fibers

68

Resin Impregnation

• The reinforcements are then drawn through the wet-out tank

• Pan guides keep the roving separated and maintain tension on the strands to permit the resin to wet-out each fiber

69

Preforming Section

• Saturated roving exits the resin bath and pass through a series of bushings or forming guides

• Excess resin is stripped off

• Fiberglass takes form for next stage

70

Curing Die

• Fiberglass enters heated steel dies that are in the shape of the final composite

• Die is heated by electric strip heaters or platens on top or bottom of the die surface

• Chrome plated interior die surfaces for increased die life and improved surface finish

71

Clamper/Puller

• Composite is pulled through the entire process by a gripper/puller system

72

Cut-off Process

• Diamond abrasive cut-off saw cuts composite to length

• Synchronized with movement of the pullers

• Activated by a preset cut-to-length limit switch
