Head Coach Gary Rundles brings 35 years of coaching experience into a Tiger program that carries high expectations into every season.

Most recently, Rundles guided the 2009 Tigers to a 38-16 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II South Regional along with a Gulf South Conference appearance. The Chatta-nooga, Tenn.-native has guided the Diamond Tigers to six GSC Tournament appearances along with four NCAA berths in his nine seasons.

In 2008, Rundles directed UWA to a 45-13 record, a berth in the GSC Baseball Tournament and an appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional in Cleveland, Miss. The 45 wins tied the school record set in 2005. Under Rundles guidance, a GSC and school record 12 Tigers were named to the All-GSC teams. UWA also had two All-Americans last season and three All-Region players.

In 2007, Rundles led the Red and White to the 2007 Gulf South Conference East Division crown and a berth in the GSC Baseball Tournament. The Tigers compiled a 41-16 record, including a spot in the GSC Tournament Championship Game. Under his mentorship seven Tigers were named All-GSC last season with one named to the All-South Central Region Team. In 2006, Rundles guided the Tigers to a 42-22 record, includ-ing a runner-up fi nish in the GSC Tournament and a berth in the South Central Regional.

From his beginnings as a coach and teacher of the game at Central High School in Harrison, Tenn., to his current status as one of the most well-known coaches in the Southeast, Rundles attacks every season with a burning desire to succeed and a fi rm belief in fundamental baseball.

He came to West Alabama from Carson-Newman, where he built and maintained one of the most solid programs in all of the land over a 13-year career. Rundles posted a record of 372-277 at Carson-Newman while winning fi ve Conference Titles and fi nishing runner-up on four occasions. He guided the Eagles to a Division II College World Series berth in 1999, earning Con-ference, Region, and Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” honors. He also led Carson-Newman to the NAIA World Series in 1993 and has been named Conference Coach of the Year on six separate occasions.

For Rundles, a long, success-fi lled coaching career began at Chattanooga Central (Tenn.) High School in 1977. Over an eight-year stretch, he compiled a record of 171-72. In 1985, Rundles departed for his alma mater Carson-Newman, where he served in the capacity of graduate assistant, and later as

assistant coach. After two seasons on the Eagle staff, he was promoted to head coach.

Today, Rundles brings the same tireless work ethic in recruit-ing, motivating and teaching the game to West Alabama. A fi rm believer in dedication and discipline, he leads by example and achieves success through hard work. He also served a term as the chairman of the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee.

Rundles, 55, is a native of Chattanooga, Tenn. He is married to the former Joan Lambert of Jefferson City, Tenn. They have three children, Alley (21), Megan (26), and a son Richard, who plays professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians organiza-tion.

David Steed returns for his fourth season as assistant coach at The Uni-versity of West Alabama. His respon-sibilities include working with hitters, recruiting, and weight training.

The Starkville, Miss.-native comes from Arkansas Tech University where he was responsible for working with the hitters during his fi ve years. He coached fi ve All-Region and 13 All-GSC hitters.

Before becoming a coach in the collegiate ranks, he played two years at Meridian Community College where he received All-Amer-ican, All-Region and Team MVP honors. He was also part of the 1st MCC team to make it to the Junior College World Series, where he was named to the World Series All Tournament Team.

He left MCC after being drafted by the Dodgers in the 15th round. During his nine year professional career, he played in the Dodgers, Angels and Rangers organizations with 4 of these years being played at the AAA level.

While at UWA, he has coached seven All-GSC hitters, one All-American and three All-South Central Regional Players. In 2008, the Tigers set a new GSC record by having 12 players on the All-GSC team.

David is married to the former Lynda Hill from North Little Rock, Ark. and they have an eight year old daughter name Cameron.

DuBose, 35, played profession-ally for 11 years including parts of fi ve seasons with the Orioles after an illustrious career in Starkville, Miss.

Setting the school’s career record with 428, DuBose racked up

strikeouts while a Bulldog as he also owns the single season mark, striking out 174 during the 1996 season. His other two seasons are also in the record books with his 1997 total of 145 ranking second and his 109 strikeout performance from his freshman season in 1995 ranking eighth.

He sits fi fth all-time in Mississippi State history with 27 career wins, assisting in guiding his team to two regionals and a College World Series appearance in 1997.

The three-time All-American was drafted in the fi rst round by the Oakland Athletics in the 1997 draft, and he spent four seasons moving up the minor league ranks before making his major league debut with Baltimore on Sept. 19, 2002 in a relief appearance against Toronto.

His professional playing career came to a conclusion following the 2008 season, and DuBose has since turned his focus to coaching the game.He has also used the time to return to the classroom and gradu-ated from Mississippi State with a degree in interdisciplinary studies in August 2011.
