Purpose and Intended Outcomes

Purpose – To close the student achievement gap.

Research indicates that students who learn a world language perform better in all academic areas of the curriculum on standardized tests compared to monolingual students.

Intended Outcomes – To improve academic excellence, increase proficiency in world languages, have a global perspective and be culturally competent global citizens.

Writing – Non-Fiction (Modes of Writing), GLAD Strategies, Writing in the target language.

Reading – Literature around the world; Reading in the target language.

Math – District Math Curriculum, Math in the target language.

Social Studies – K-5 World Curriculum, 8th Grade International Research Project, World Economics, Model United Nations.

Science – District Science Kits with International perspective, Biodiesel Fuel Lab Series, focus on problem solving, higher level thinking, and innovation.
