Unlicensed work can effect your home insurance and void the warranty Beware of ‘Restricted Split Systems Install Permit’ Holders

Ask to see the installer’s licence!

A Fridgy is a Cert 3 trade qualified Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Mechanic. Then, there’s the others! It’s important to understand the difference:

A Cert 3 Qualified Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic:

✓ Has completed a 4 YEAR SKILLED APPRENTICESHIP focussed on air conditioning. ✓ Is trained to perform all legal installation, warranty, repair and servicing work. ✓ Is an air conditioning specialist who will assess all factors to ensure optimum unit

efficiency, performance, and ensure the system is sized correctly.

A Cert 2 restricted permit holder:

Could be a plumber or an electrician who has ONLY completed as little as a TWO DAY SHORT COURSE to obtain an install certificate. They are only permitted to carry out installation work; nothing more. Has NOT completed a 4 year air conditioning apprenticeship. Is not qualified to install split system air conditioners over 18kW cooling capacity. Is not qualified to install multi-head split systems. Can add refrigerant during installation but after that, they cannot connect gauges to check gas pressures, or re-gas a unit. Cannot repair gas leaks or carry out any warranty work. Is not skilled or qualified to service, repair or maintain any air conditioner. They are not fully qualified Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Specialists. The NSW Office of Fair Trading does not recognise Cert 2. All installation work in NSW

must be carried out by a qualified Fridgy. Using a Cert 2 is in breach of legislation.

''Always insist on a Cert 3 qualified tradesperson. The quality, reliability and efficiency of your system depends on it!"

“A Cert 2 is kind of like doing a First Aid Certificate

and impersonating a trained paramedic.”
