ALFARO AT GUAYAQUIL.

Ten Thousand Peraoni Assembled toWelcome Him.

Special Tables,am to the New York Times.GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador, via Galveston,

Jure 10..The steamer Pentaur arrived hereyesterday with Gen. Eloy Alfaro on board.About 10,000 persona were assembled towelcome him, led by Gen. Ignacio Robles, who has been civil and military chlsf ofthe province of Guayas in Alfaro's absence.Gen. Alfaro was greeted with the wildestenthusiasm.

Gen. Eloy Alfaro was in exile at Mana¬gua when the conservatives of Guayaquilwere defeated. He was recalled by tele¬graph and arnounced the program of therevolution as if he had been an active par¬ticipant in its work. He designated thegeneral who should be actirg chief of therevolution until his a; rival. He a nativeof the province of Marahl, and has a bril¬liant record of insurrections against dicta¬tors. He is the representative of the mostadvanced religious *and political ideas atEcuador.Gen. Alfaro's arrival is timely and pre¬

vents, perhaps, a movement which mighthave resulted in a serious counter revolu¬tion. Gen. Alfaro's arrival dissipates allpretensions of aiding the Quito governmentto regain its power over Ecuador. The firsteffort of the government will be, probably,to fix the date of the general elections. Aconvention is to be held at Guayaquil assoon as possible.
