Artists in the rock industry range from all ages. Typically starting in the mid-teens, for example ‘Avril Lavigne’ who began her rock career at the age of 15. Some people may prefer to listen to older singers such as ‘John Bon Jovi’ who is still going strong with his singing career at the age of 52.

Regardless of all the successful female rock singers out there the rock genre tends to be understood as a masculine art form. Rock music is very macho and brash which tends to be associated with male singers. Although music genres shouldn’t be subjected to only one gender, modern society has deemed the rock genre to be connected with males. There are plenty of female rock artists who have done extremely well in the music industry such as ‘Pink’ however there are a larger amount male singers who have been highly recognised in the rock trade, such as ‘Slash’, ‘Axl Rose’ and ‘Ozzy Osbourne’.
