SOCIAL MEDIA DOES NOT REPLACE THE NEED FOR PHYSICAL COMMUNITY BUT RATHER ENHANCES IT

DISPERSAL AS A GIVEN: THE WORLD IS BECOMING MORE URBAN BUT CITIES ARE NOT NECESSARILY BECOMING DENSER

 MORE SPACE ≠ MORE MONEY

The kibbutz emerged in the 20th century as a voluntary collective settlement type based on equality, mutual aid and communal life.Initially guided by a strong social idealism, full economic and social partnership, where everything was shared and divided equality among the community, and governed by direct democracy of the community members.

A. D. Gordon (1856 -1922) saw much of socialism as “mechanical”, argued that a change in the structure of society must occur together with a

change in the relation of man to nature, on the individual level. The experience of land labor linked the individual to nature and to the hidden

aspects of being.

Changes in Israeli society and economy – privatization, market pressures, the move away from social welfare . . .capitalism

The family replaces the individual as the community ‘member’
