• A Banking Ombudsman (BO) hears customers’ complaints against banks.

• BO was first setup in UK.

• In India, RBI started this scheme in 1995 under the Banking regulation act of 1949.

What complaints can Banking Ombudsman resolve?• Non-payment or inordinate delay in the payment or

collection of cheques, drafts, bills• Non-acceptance, without sufficient cause, of small

denomination notes tendered for any purpose, and for charging of commission in respect thereof

• Non-payment or delay in payment of inward remittances
