RETIRED detectiveBrian Henstock stillfinds wife Rita veryarresting – after 50years of marriage.

The couple, of BaslowCrescent, Dodworth, cele-brated their golden wed-ding anniversary lastweek.

They met in Hemsworthone snowy night andwere married monthslater at St Helen’s Church.

Brian, 72, worked forthe West Riding and WestYorkshire police followedby South Yorkshire whenhe moved to Barnsley in1965.

Rita, 70, was an officeclerk at Lowfield storageand distribution whichused to be in Dodworth.

They have a daughter,Elizabeth, son, Richardand two granddaughters.

The Big Switch-OnWeek end will see BBCRadio 2 broadcast a seriesof live shows introducedby some of the station’sbest-loved presentersincluding one-timeBlackpool resident, come-dian Alan Carr.

He will be flicking thefamous switch on Sept -ember 4 from the special-ly-built Switch-On are na.

For the remaining nigh-ts of the season, Black-pool’s Illuminations willbring the resort to life inlight and colour.

The Illuminations offervisitors a host of differentexperiences and ways toview the glittering specta-cle.

Whilst most visitorsdrive through the lightseither by car, coach orbus, there are some moreexciting ways of viewingthe dazzling displays.

Hopping aboard anopen-top tram is best forthe clearest view, whileriding in a horse-drawncarriage could be a rom-antic treat, or you cansimply walk through theIlluminations, wrapped ina warm coat and eating abag of chips.

In addition to theIlluminations there aremany more things to seeand do when staying in
