Manufacturing Extension Partnership

• Created 25 years ago to serve manufacturing

sector.

• Identify AND overcome barriers to growth.

• Find experts to enhance productivity:• Process improvement (LEAN, process mapping);

• Management, supervision, skills training;

• Technology support.

• Knowledge of trainers, national network

of expertise, negotiated training rates.

Make It In America

• $2.1 million collaborative grant;

• Three projects/three funding sources;

• One of only 11 grants funded in 2013.

UpSkill YourWorkforce

New Opportunity for Incumbent Worker Training

UpSkill Your Workforce

• Goal to train 800 individuals and provide 900 certifications.

• UpSkill can pay up to 50% of the training cost. Company covers the rest.

• All provided trainings must result in a certification or credential.

Why These Targeted Sectors?

• Strengthening these sectors will strengthen the existing workforce.

• These sectors are among Ohio’s fastest growing manufacturing sectors.

• These sectors are most optimally positioned to reshore jobs and investments from overseas.

Eligible Program Participants

• Age 18+, HS diploma/GED, post secondary education, or work experience pursuing a high-skill occupation;

• Specific trainees will be identified and recruited through their employer based upon specific criteria;

• Lean Manufacturing

• Six Sigma

• PLC

• CNC

• Machine Design

• Leadership

• CADD

• Forklift Certification

• Lumber Grading

• Plastic Extrusion

• Stitchology

Ineligible Items

• Training for upper management and owners. (Managers can audit the training but will not receive credentials or certification);

• Safety and compliance related training.

On the Job Training

• 20 openings for dislocated workers;

• UpSkill can pay 50% of wages for 6 months while the worker is trained.

Other Benefits

• Training topics are tailored to site specific needs.

• The content delivery is also tailored to site specific needs.

• Sole source providers are acceptable.

• Builds confidence in participants.
