WELCOME
Professor Richard S. Hyland, Curriculum Chair
Dear Business Student:
Welcome to the Department of Business at Westchester Community College.
Getting started in college can be a daunting experience - there
are forms to complete, deadlines to meet, books to buy, and
offices to visit. This booklet will help you navigate this
process.
The Business Department at Westchester Community College
has a long and proud tradition of preparing students to
transition directly into industry and transferring to four-year
institutions. Many of our alumni have gone on to the best
colleges and universities in the world, and some are now high-
level leaders in their respective fields. You are about to join
these illustrious alumni as you begin your journey at WCC.
It is very important that you make connections to faculty, staff, and administrators as soon and
as often as possible. You will find that our team is dedicated to your success. We are all here
to help you, but you must be proactive by reaching out for assistance.
On behalf of my colleagues, we wish you well as you make your way through your studies at
WCC. Do not hesitate to contact me, or any of your other Business professors, if you have
questions.
Sincerely,
Professor Richard S. Hyland

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Business Management, AS
Goal
“The goal of the Business Management A.S. program is to equip students with the
competencies required to succeed in a rigorous bachelor’s degree program”
Description
The program parallels the first two years of the bachelor’s degree requirements at most four-year
colleges and universities. Transfer agreements between Westchester Community College and four-year
colleges in the region assure that, with careful planning, A.S. graduates may transfer most of their
credits when they enter the same curriculum at those institutions.
Today’s managers must be prepared to enter into a workplace
that is increasingly globalized, interconnected, and
multicultural. The Business Management degree at
Westchester Community College also prepares students for
such challenges and opportunities. The program will teach
students how to:
Analyze data to solve complex challenges
Communicate effectively
Engage in business practices ethically
Manage in increasingly multicultural settings
Market products to ever changing consumer tastes
Learning Outcomes
To this end, the program endeavors to equip students with the Knowledge, Skills, and Mindset required
for success in Business. Upon completion of this program, student will be able to demonstrate:
1. An understanding of the functions of Management.
2. The ability to analyze data.
3. The ability to apply Management models and theories to specific scenarios.

The Associate in Science curriculum provides a broad
technical and academic background that serves to prepare
students for entry into career positions or continued study at
the four-year college or university level. Westchester
Community College has established transfer agreements with
a number of colleges and universities. Students who plan
their programs carefully will receive full transfer credit at
these institutions and will advance to the bachelor’s degree
with two years of additional study.
Students who love style, have an interest in
merchandising, or a desire to work in textiles and
fashion marketing, will find a variety of career
opportunities in the dynamic, creative, and challenging
world of fashion. The Fashion Merchandising program,
combines fashion studies with business courses, will
prepare students for positions in resident buying offices,
fashion manufacturers, designers’ showrooms, retail
stores, fashion publications, and other firms associated
with the fashion industry. After graduation, students
transfer to bachelor’s degree programs in colleges that
offer Fashion Merchandising degrees, such as Fashion
Institute of Technology (FIT), Berkeley College, or The
Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (LIM) and other
four-year colleges that offer fashion-related degrees.

TRANSFER SERVICES
Many of our students have gone on to excel at the most selective colleges and
universities in the United States. The Office of Transfer Services provides a wide range
of services and information on the various opportunities available at four-year
institutions to maximize your transfer potential. Services include one-on-one transfer
counseling, fall and spring transfer fairs, workshops, on-site admission days, and four-
year college reps on campus throughout the year.
Students also have access to CollegeFish.org, an online
tool to help community college students meet their goal
of completing an Associate degree and successfully
transferring to a four-year institution. Each college and
university has its own criteria for acceptance, so you
should do your homework as soon as you have decided
on a transfer school and then set up an appointment
with a Business Professor to develop a strategy that
will maximize your chances of being accepted.

“It was extremely helpful to have business professors
that were not only able to relay information in a clear
and concise manner, but also possess real world
business experience themselves.
“WCC was a key starting point in
my education. Attending WCC
was by far the best decision I
made as a high school senior who
just arrived in the U.S.A. It
allowed me to gain the necessary
skills and knowledge to transfer to
a well-known university and start
my career in finance.”
Anna Jeschke (WCC ‘09; Columbia ‘11)
“The Business Program at WCC prepared me well
for my transition to Columbia University. The
Professors have in-depth knowledge of their field and
truly support students all the way. Working in a
major Investment Bank today I am finding myself
using skills that I acquired at WCC.”
