"Joseph Had a Little Overcoat" was written by Simms Taback and
is adapted from a Yiddish folk song ‘I had a Little Overcoat'.
In this story Joseph who has an overcoat. As time goes by it becomes
tattered. Instead of throwing his overcoat away, he makes a jacket,
then a vest and so on. Throughout the story, each piece he makes be-
comes 'old and worn' until there is no material left. Joseph had noth-
ing left.
Instead of being distraught about the matter, he decides to write a
book about his overcoat, which goes to show ' You can always make
something out of nothing".
