Pulborough STW - Inlet Screen Upgrade
A Wastewater Case Study
HUBER Technology successfully completed the inlet screen upgrade at Pulborough
STW installing 2 off of its Rotamat Ro9 700mm diameter Microstrainer screens with
6mm perforated plate mesh on an elevated inlet works structure.
Project Profile
Working with BTU, Southern Water’s small projects delivery team, Huber investigated a
number of various different options to replace the old worn out 25mm automated raked
bar screen and its associated mechanical dewaterer. The Population Equivalent for
Pulborough was identified as 8,352 and had a consented full flow to treatment of 62
litres/sec. From investigation within the terminal pump station however recorded flows
of up to 160 litres/sec had been experienced and resulted in the existing screens
allowing unscreened influent into the balance to the storm tanks and blocking
downstream pumps.

Objective & Solution
The maximum size HUBER Rotamat Ro9/700 was chosen and installed to meet a
maximum inflow of 160 litres/sec as had been experienced from the earlier site
investigation. In addition to this during the design phase it was also decided to fit 2 off
screens working on a duty / standby arrangement and remove the existing bypass bar
screen.
