Greetings Brother Knights. November was a very active month. We started off with a very successful golf scramble. Thanks to Pete Manning, Pat Sheehy and all those who worked to make the charity golf scramble a success. A special thanks to Dorothy Manning for her work and the delicious chili. Just a few days later, the Mass of Remembrance was held to commemorate members who have died in the past year. The Thanksgiving dinner was very well attended. The month was closed out with the Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Father Pius Poff along with the Assembly Color Guard.
December 10th we will again prepare and serve the noon meal at the Cathedral soup kitchen. It takes 10 people to efficiently provide this service. A signup sheet will be available at the next council meeting. Along the lines of helping the less fortunate, the food drive continues. Please drop off your canned vegetables in the lobby of the council.
Our annual Children’s Christmas Party will be held on December 11th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. There will be fun crafts, games, and snacks for the kids as well as a visit from Santa Claus! Please bring your own camera along with your kids, grandkids, and your great grandchildren for a fun filled afternoon! Then plan on staying afterwards for one of our delicious Sunday dinners!
December 14 is our annual Christmas and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner with social hour starting at 6:00 PM. Dinner will start at 7:00 PM with a short program at 8:00 pm. Reservations are required. Tickets are $6.00 each with a cash bar. To make reservations call the council at 893-2220.
It’s not too late to place an entry into the “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest. We have three age categories, 5-7, 8-10 and 11-14. The posters are judged based on slogans, visual, and overall impact. Entry forms may be picked up at the council. Each poster must include the entry form. This is open to all children. Invite relatives, friends, and neighbors to participate. The deadline to have the poster submitted is December 7.
Take a few minutes and complete the Survey of Fraternal Activity. This can be completed online at www.kofc2761.org. Log in the members only tab to find “Record Your Volunteer Hours and Visits”.
Just around the corner, A Valentine’s Day dance will take place at the council Saturday, February 11th from 8:00 pm to midnight. Admission is $10.00 per person at the door with a cash bar. The featured band will be The Rounder Brothers Band. Reservations will be taken for the tables of eight or
more on a first come, first serve basis. Please call the council at 893-2220 and leave your name, phone number and the number of guests attending.
As we all get caught up in the busy holiday rush, let’s not forget the true meaning of Christmas! Celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Remember, He is the reason for the season! Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.

BOAT DOCKS/HURRICANE DECK/PARK/POOL/CONCESSION STAND- I normally do not put these places in the same paragraph, but this past month when we had black Saturday (take down the docks work party and put everything away in the park and pool area) I decided all of our membership should be aware of what it takes to keep our facilities together and running. On Thursday, November 10, some of the R&L Crew with other dock volunteers dropped the dock water pipes and moved them to the top of the bank. They also took down the overhead dock lights which made less to do on Black Saturday.
On that day, all the furniture, lights, fans, and miscellaneous stuff on the hurricane deck plus the light poles, wiring for the overhead dock lights, and all panel boxes were all moved to the concession stand. While this was going on, the park crew were moving all the park & pool furniture also to the concession stand for the winter.
At 10:25 AM all the workers were in the first floor for refreshments, bean soup and hot dogs. Special thanks to Shirley Huhn, Joyce Klusman & Jean Deye for having the food ready to serve when the crews were done. We have a lot of special people in our organizations, but these three Boat Captains always answer the call to help.
CLUBHOUSE- First I want to say a special thank you to Ron Hudson, who is in charge of our Kitchen and all food preparations. The Thanksgiving Buffet we had on Sunday, November 20th was an overwhelming success with over 144 adults and 11 children in attendance. There were a couple of hiccups when a couple of our regular dinner attendees showed up without reservations but all was taken care of. The other issue was a reservation made in the name of a particular group, but when folks started showing up they were under a different name. Long story short, all got dinner and hopefully everyone enjoyed the food and the evening.
THE SECOND FLOOR & KITCHEN IS CLOSED FROM SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24TH THRU JANUARY 3RD AND WILL OPEN FOR WEDNESDAY LUNCH ON JANUARY 4TH. AS IS THE TRADITION, A NUMBER OF OUR MEMBERS SHOW UP, TAKE ALL THE KITCHEN EQUIPMENT APART AND DO WHAT WE CALL “DEEP CLEANING”. THE SECOND

Short reminders: Bring in your aluminum cans and paperback books, and reminder to check on your neighbors.
On behalf of our staff (Ron & the kitchen folks), the members of the Board of Directors and their families and especially from Bobbie and myself, enjoy the holidays, remember how blessed we are to have the facility that we have, to enjoy each other’s company and friendships.

As the holiday season is now upon us, let us pause to remember all our blessings and everything big and small that we should be grateful for this past year. The Mass of Remembrance was a complete success. Many thanks to Father Poff, SK Ken Rosenbaum, SK Dennis Bosse, SK Rick Ratterman, SK Joe Paul, and SK Steve Oswald. Also a special thank-you
to SK Jim French and all the Color Corps in full regalia who supported this and the Thanksgiving morning mass. Our council is so honored to have such faithful Knights as you. On the civic front, our assembly dutifully represented the entire Knights of Columbus in our diocese at the recent Veterans parade. Although not in great numbers, SK Frank Frick and I were “Two Proud” to represent our Patriotic Degree as we marched down Main Street.
The next 4th Degree Exemplification is scheduled at our facility on Saturday, February 4, 2017. The 4th Degree is the Patriotic Degree of the Knights of Columbus. If you are not yet a member, would you consider joining? I guarantee you will find it a rewarding experience. Your presence as a new “Sir Knight” would positively reflect on our council, all your brother Knights, and demonstrate exactly who we are.
Next month is the time that our Council and 4th Degree Assembly report all our fraternal activity for the previous year. Anything that is associated with charity, caring, giving, helping others in regards to either KofC, church, civic, or support of families counts to each individuals input. Activities such as eucharistic minister, reader, greeter, usher at church, picnic helper, coaching youth sports, scouts, caring for the elderly and just generally helping others should be included. It is easy to complete on-line. On your computer internet web browser just type the following: kofc2761.org in the window that shows the current website which is usually at the top center of the computer screen. Once that is done just hit the enter/ return key and the Spalding Council web-page should load and open. After the page is open, go to the list of shortcuts on the lefthand side of the page. Click on “MEMBERS ONLY” which will open a “Log-In” page. Enter your KofC member number that is listed on your KofC membership card, your birthday in the Password box, and click “SUBMIT”. On the next page that opens, go down to highlighted button named “POST YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS and VISITS” and click on that highlighted button. Now you should have the service hours form where you can enter your activities and time spent. Finally just click on the “ENTER ALL ENTRIES” highlighted button at the bottom to submit the information.

VA hospital. Please keep the paper back books coming in though, we will hold them until space is available and start delivering them to the Vets again.
A hardy well-done is due to SK Pete Manning and Pat Sheehey for organizing and running our Councils Charity Golf Scramble. We had 14 teams sign-up and 12 sponsors making this the best year ever. Way to go guys and thank-you to everyone who played or sponsored a hole.
Upcoming Christmas/Appreciation Dinner will be on Wednesday evening December 14. There will be a sign-up sheet at the second floor dining room or call (502) 893-2220 to make reservations. Your support is critical to maintain the good health of our Council and organization. This will be the last major function of the year, what better way to start the countdown to Christmas and the birth of our Lord. Lastly, Lady Carolyn and myself would like to wish everyone a most Blessed Christmas Season and a wonderful New Year.
Respectfully, SK Joe Ledweg, F/N

55 golfers met at Long Run Park Golf Course on Sunday, November 6, 2016 and enjoyed a sunny 70° plus day golfers holiday.
The day started with registration (thanks to Dorothy and Carla (family run)) and wearing of shorts, tank tops and other golfer items. Pictures were taken by Ed Frank, our insurance guru, and at noon the golfers went to various tee's to compete in the 10th Annual Knights of Columbus Golf Scramble.
John Berry's team survived several close calls but was a winner with minus 16. The final trophy was presented Ebert Haegele who promptly, without prompting, donated back his share of the prize money. Thanks!
Thanks also to my co-chairman Pat Sheehey and Mike Recktenwald whose encouragement and endless help make me the golf expert-in-waiting I am. Thanks guys. After Golf, a pre-paid dinner was enjoyed at the Club and a great time
was had by all. Thank you everybody, and thanks also to Mo Demling, Club Pro who was the spirit of Long Run.
After all 11 teams finished, the players warmed up in the bright and comfortable clubhouse. Cash, trophies, awards and many door prizes were given out. CL Cissna made the keepsake trophies for the winning team.
Special thanks to these players for a second year: John Michael Aubrey, Sheriff Aubrey, Tommy Cooper, Carl Yates and all the other players. And welcome to the several new teams brought in by Ebert Haegele. To all the hole sponsors and many who donated money, it is sincerely appreciated and grows the Charity Fund.
If it wasn't fun, I wouldn't do it. See you at Long Run on November 5th, 2017. But first, see you the first Monday in Derby Week at the Derby Dinner so you can see how your money was given to charity. Have a wonderful winter and remember "Fortune favors the bold."

Hello Ladies, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and now we can look ahead to Christmas.
We made Christmas ornaments at our last meeting thanks to Rosi McGrath. They turned out very nice. Most people donated them to the Club to decorate the Christmas tree for the Children’s Christmas party. It will be held on December 11 at 3:00 pm on the first floor. Please bring your children and grandchildren. A fun time will be had by all.
Our Christmas party and dinner will be held on December 7th with cocktails at 6:30 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm. We again this year will be having a gift swap. If you would like to participate, please bring a $10.00 gift wrapped with your name on it. If you want to come but can no longer drive at night, please contact me at 448-7446 or Joan Howard at 765-730-8986. We will try to make arrangements to get your there and home.
Our Christmas project this year is a special one. We will be donating to the Jason Schweitzer Memorial fund. Jason was a Metro policeman who was hit and killed in Lexing-ton. He was a member of Knights of Columbus at another council. He leaves behind a wife, daughter and a son to be born in March.
There will not be a January meeting due to the shutdown of the Clubhouse for the annual deep cleaning. I hope to see everyone at the February meeting. We will be playing Bunco and having pizza.
