PERSONNEL:

This week Corporal David Hallback retired

from the Department and the City of

Cloquet after serving 27 years with Police

Department. Congratulations Dave! We

wish you all the best in your retirement.

PATROL/DETECTIVES:

On Monday patrol officers and detectives

were called to Maytag Laundry located at

402 Doddridge Avenue in the City of

Cloquet where it was reported that two

vending machines had been broken into and

the store’s security system was damaged.

After collecting evidence and following up

on potential leads, staff identified a suspect

and arrested a 36-year-old Cloquet man who

was formally charged with Criminal

Damage to Property in the First Degree.

On Sunday Cloquet officers were called to

Murphy's Gas Station in Cloquet where it

was reported that three State Lottery scratch

off tickets had been stolen. An officer spoke

with the cashier who stated that a female had

come to her stating that the toilet paper was

wet in the bathroom. While the clerk went

to check on the problem a male entered the

store, reached behind the counter and stole

three lottery tickets. Video surveillance was

used in the identification of the suspects

which helped officers locate them.

Through the investigation, officers

arrested a 28-year-old Cloquet man

and a 31-year-old Cloquet woman

without incident. The male suspect

was formally charged with State

Lottery Fraud, a felony, and also

Misdemeanor Theft. The woman was

charged with State Lottery Fraud (Aid

and Abet), a felony, and also

Misdemeanor Theft (Aid and Abet).

Both were lodged at the Carlton

County Law Enforcement Center.

TRAINING:

This week Detectives Randall and

Holman attended the 2014 CAN-AM

Conference which was sponsored by

the Minnesota State Association of

Narcotics Investigators. The

conference was held in Nisswa,

Minnesota. The conference covered a

variety of topics, including case law

updates presented from the Minnesota

Attorney General's Office, current

drug trends, information on synthetic

drugs, search warrants, gang and drug

surveillance, and heroin.

MISCELLANEOUS:

This week I participated in an

Emergency Management Table-Top

Exercise that was held at the Carlton

County Transportation Building. The

exercise provided an opportunity for

participants to evaluate current

concepts, plans, and capabilities for a

response to a railway incident

involving hazardous materials in

represented at this exercise.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

On Saturday our officers were able to stop by and show

their support for Special Olympics Minnesota which

was held in Cloquet. The athletes loved the law

enforcement support. Here's a photo of one of the

athletes and Corporal Steve Fiske.

On Monday and Tuesday of this week several of our

officers participated in a question and answer forum at

the Cloquet Middle School. The presentation stemmed

around the career of law enforcement and the duties

and responsibilities that officer's deal with on a daily

basis.

If you have any questions about the information

provided, feel free to contact me at the police

department.

Respectfully Submitted,
