By Ronnie, Munich: Anyone visiting Zurich for the first time should be sure to go to the National Museum by the Main Station: here Switzerland’s history is brought to life. After fortifying yourself in the Restaurant Spitz (named for the adjoining Platzspitz Park) next door, you can learn all kinds of fascinating facts on a guided walk through Zurich’s Old Town. Afterwards, it is worth embarking on a shopping spree through the Old Town because the most beautiful souvenirs of Zurich can be found in the stores, Marktlücke and Schweizer Heimatwerk. In the evening, I recommend the restaurant AuGust, housed in the Widder Hotel.

Grand Tour of Switzerland
Travelers on the Grand Tour of Switzerland are treated to cultural and regional gems as they explore five Alpine passes, four language zones, and many UNESCO World Heritage sites. The route goes completely around and through Switzerland. In the Zurich region, the Grand Tour of Switzerland passes through Rapperswil and Zurich to the Rhine Falls, offering breathtaking countryside, culture and culinary experiences. The highlights of the Zurich section are the cities of Rapperswil, Zurich and Winterthur, as well as the delightful drive along Lake Zurich to the Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall. This adventurous road trip is also available as the E-Grand Tour for electrically-powered vehicles.
The recommended time to travel is summer, from April through October. The Grand Tour is marked with official signposts, traveling in a clockwise direction. Within the Grand Tour itinerary, you will find sections that offer guided tours, including “Half-Day Trip to the Rhine Falls and Stein am Rhein” (Tour 18) and “Day Trip to Berne With Food Tasting” (Tour 20).
