College Board Schools Advisory Program Alignment to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Student Standards
Advisory is a key component in College Board Schools’ holistic approach to college preparation, focusing on academic behaviors, contextual skills and awareness. During advisory sessions, students' academic, social and emotional development is supported by advisers who: Monitor their progress under the guidance of a caring adult Help them build lasting and supportive relationships with their peers and teachers Teach them behaviors that lead to success in both school and life Encourage them to make thoughtful decisions about their future Considering the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) similar mission to support school counselors in the academic, personal/social and career development of students, the College Board Schools Advisory Session Guides have been aligned to the ASCA Student Standards1. During the development of this alignment, College Board Schools: Considered the intent and scope of the ASCA standards statements, with attention to both the
content and skill component of the standard Aligned advisory sessions to the most specific component of the ASCA standard These alignments reflect College Board Schools’ determination of identifiable bridges between the advisory session content and skills and the ASCA standards.
