THE CHURCH GATHERS TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS EVE
PRELUDE John Ireland “The Holy Boy” 1879-1962 WORDS OF GREETING Rev. Jeff Procter-Murphy *CAROL Hymnal #234 “O Come, All Ye Faithful” Vs. 1 & 2 *CHRISTMAS PRAYER (in unison) Gracious and loving God, on this day we pray for all who walk in darkness, in this place and everywhere, that they may be freed from all evil and fear, and may in joy be lifted up to the light of your love. Bathe the world with your grace so that men and women together may hear your astonishing word of hope and become agents of your transforming love. In this, as in all things, we give you praise for ever and ever. Amen. *HYMN RESPONSE Vs. 3
“O Come, All Ye Faithful” Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation; O sing, all ye citizens of heaven above! Glory to God, all glory in the highest;
O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.
If this is your first time with us, we’re glad you’re here! Please indicate your presence with us
by filling out the sheet from the Welcome brochure found in the pew rack.
The presence of children is a gift to our church and they are a reminder that Dayspring is
growing. All children are welcome during our services. If you prefer, children’s Sunday
School and nursery care is available. Children in Pre-K through 6th grade will meet in the
Narthex following Children’s Time and be escorted to their classes. Parents are encouraged
to walk with first-timers to their classroom.
Large print bulletins, hymnals and personal listening devices are available in the Narthex or
from the ushers, as well as Children’s Worship Guides. Ask an usher if you need assistance.
Dayspring UMC is a Reconciling Congregation. All people, regardless of age, sex, race,
color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic status or ability are welcome
into the full life of our congregation.
Please note: Our services are streamed online. If you prefer not to potentially be on camera,
please sit toward the back of the section to your left (farthest from the choir).
WELCOME

Response: Holy One, help us bear witness to your story and to
bring life, even in bleak situations. Let us shine with
your grace and mercy that can transform the world. We
pray grateful for baby Jesus and the Christ he became
who continually offers each of us fresh manifestations
of peace, love, hope and joy. Christ be our light!

“Angels We Have Heard on High”
Angels we have heard on high sweetly singing o’er the plains,
and the mountains in reply echoing their joyous strains.
Glo - - ria, in excelsis Deo! Glo - - ria, in excelsis Deo!
“O Little Town of Bethlehem”
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie;
above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;
the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
“It Came upon the Midnight Clear”
It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth, to touch their harps of gold:
“Peace on the earth, good will to all, from heaven’s all-gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.

With this communion, let the work of Christmas begin with me. Amen. *BENEDICTION *ANTHEM / BENEDICTION RESPONSE Hymnal #219
