strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Reading I Deuteronomy 6:2-6 Moses spoke to the people, saying: "Fear the LORD, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that you may grow and prosper the more, in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers, to give you a land flowing with milk and honey. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone! Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today."

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 18:2-3, 3-4, 47, 51 I love you, Lord, my strength. I love you, O LORD, my strength, O LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. My God, my rock of refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold! Praised be the LORD, I exclaim, and I am safe from my enemies. I love you, Lord, my strength. The LORD lives! And blessed be my rock! Extolled be God my savior. You who gave great victories to your king and showed kindness to your anointed. I love you, Lord, my strength.

Reading II Hebrews 7:23-28 Brothers and sisters: The levitical priests were many because they were prevented by death from remaining in office, but Jesus, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away. Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests, but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law, appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever.

Gospel Mark 12:28b-34 One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.' And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your

Parish Mission Statement We, the parishioners of St. Therese, are committed to continue the

ministry of Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, faith, and charity. We believe that the Eucharist should be at the center of our lives; that we are

to be the stewards of God, sharing our time and talents to promote our spiritual development as individuals and a community. May St. Therese

assist us that we might imitate her life of prayer, simplicity and obedience to God’s will.

From Fr. Albert

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“The souls of the just are in the hand of God” (Wis 3:1)

The month of November is a time to remember and pray for deceased family members. We celebrate All Souls Day on November 2nd, which is dedicated to prayers for the dead. We visit cemeteries, we pray the rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, etc. for the deceased. The Feast of All Souls Day, is a reminder of our own death and the death of loved ones. Why do we pray for the dead… the faithful departed? It is a co-relationship that all human beings share with each other. When a person dies, his/her existence ceases only in our sight, but they still continue to live in God’s sight. They are not dead to God. Jesus says in Luke 20:38, “…he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him, all are alive”. Dear friends, our God is a God of life, love, and hope. Not a God of death, wrath, and anger. “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven”. (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1030). Therefore, it is a duty on our part that we pray for the purification of all faithful departed. Death is a reality which we all experience including the saints. The righteous people whom God has sanctified are not exempted from death. They will receive the best in life, for they have in their hearts the Creator, God himself. Death is frightening for the faithless, but for the faithful, it is the doorway to the fountain of faith! Although horrifying for the loveless, those who love, it is a passage to the fullness of love! Death is devastating for the hopeless, but for those who hope, it is the entry to the spring of hope! Please remember that in the Lord, the faithful departed are returned to their true home, not on earth but with the Lord. May our Blessed Mother Mary who bore the pain of the death of Her beloved Child be our refuge and strength. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

In Christ, Fr. Albert

Everyday Stewardship Recognize God in Your Ordinary Moments The Daily Examen of Stewardship “Stewardship” can get a bum rap these days. When folks hear the term “stewardship” from the pulpit, their eyes tend to kind of glaze over. “Here’s Father asking for more money,” they groan inwardly, “Get ready for the passing of the pledge cards.” Christ refutes this idea when he gives us what he calls the greatest commandments — instructing us to love God and to love our neighbor. Now, Christ is a man who chose his words carefully. He meant exactly what he said — and he didn’t say that the greatest commandments were to tithe and to give money to charity. If he had wanted stewardship to be only about money, he would have said so. Sometimes we are indeed called to show our love for God and neighbor in the form of a financial gift. But the concept of Everyday Stewardship — living mindfully in prayer, grateful for our blessings, and gracious to our neighbors, committed to God, and accountable to each other — is about so much more. I propose a twist on the long-held practice of the “Daily Examen” — a pious devotion wherein, at day’s end, we go over the events of the last 24 hours and discern God’s will. A Daily Examen of Stewardship might contain questions like this: How did I love God today? In whom did I love Him? What did God give me today? With whom did I share it? What did I give to Him?

To whom did I reach out today? Who reached out to me?

Where was God on my list of priorities today? First? Second? Third, fourth?

Why Do We Do That? Catholic Life Explained: What is a Pilgrimage?

Question: What is a pilgrimage? Why do people go on them?

Answer: A pilgrimage is a spiritual journey to visit a holy site, such as the shrine of a saint, a place where the Blessed Virgin Mary has appeared, or an historic church or chapel. What makes a pilgrimage different from a vacation and a pilgrim distinct from a tourist is the spirit in which the journey is made. Pilgrimages are really a symbol of our spiritual journey in life, reminding us that this world is not our true home and that we spend our lives journeying to our homeland, which is the Kingdom of God. Pilgrimages — which can be as involved as a trip to Rome or the Holy Land or as simple as visiting the Blessed Sacrament in a local parish church — are also an opportunity for us to step out of the rhythms and limits of our daily lives to seek out connection with God in a special way, by visiting a holy place. At times, such as on a special feast, a jubilee, or the anniversary of the dedication of the church, special graces (called “indulgences”) can also be offered to pilgrims, helping to enrich our experi-ence of the celebration. In the end, pilgrimages are an ancient act of devotion and something that each of us can put into practice, helping us to discover how God is present in the world around us, in places both near and far.

Live Stream Mass St. Therese Parish Live-streamed on the St. Therese Facebook page and our website so you can join in spiritually from your home. Sunday - Mass at 10 a.m.

Sitting in the presence of God at St. Therese church, our eyes are often drawn to the vibrant beauty of the stained glass windows. Ponder for a

moment the three windows on the upper right. The rich hues portray the life of our Divine Savior as a helpless baby. How amazing that our all-powerful Creator would choose to come into the world in such a powerless way! Clearly, babies are very important to Him. Scripture teaches that the little ones are some of his favorites, ie. Luke 18:16, "Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these". He can even identify with infants in the womb, having nestled there securely for nine months himself. Today, it must break His heart to see precious babies often ripped from their mother's wombs by the heinous act of abortion. However, does it make Him even sadder when so few of us actually make an effort to end this slaughter? Perhaps abortion seems too overwhelming to tackle, or we already feel "stretched too thin" or busy. But as we experience the current utter disarray in our nation, it is obvious that we have pushed away God's hand of protection and blessing in some way. Allowing the killing of over 60 million unborn babies can do that. Is it time for more of us in the Church, the Body of Christ, to arise and use all the formidable tools at our disposal, i.e. Prayer, Study and Action to destroy abortion and re-establish a Culture of Life? Praying a Hail Mary or decade of the rosary daily for Life, never voting for pro-abortion politicians, checking out pro-life websites like those in the bulletin, attending pro-life events like this Sunday's Pro-Life Adoration (11:15-12:00) are just a few things we can do for starters. In the hope of bringing blessings and moral restoration to our beloved country, let us be open to God's Holy Will and continue to fight for the Right to Life of the Innocent Unborn! 2 Chronicles 7:14”And if my people, who are called by my Name, humble themselves and pray, and seek my Face, and turn from their wicked ways, I

will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and revive their land."

The Month of November is Dedicated to the Poor Souls in Purgatory The Catholic Church grants ‘indulgences’ which draw from the infinite treasury of the merits of Our Lord Jesus Christ, of Our Lady and of all the saints. An indulgence is the removal of some or all of the temporal punishment due to us for our sins already forgiven. From November 1st through November 8th inclusive we can gain, every day, a plenary indulgence for the Poor Souls. Please see the insert in this bulletin for further information.

You Can’t Take It with You There was a very rich man who was just about to die, and he wanted to take some of his wealth with him. So, he started negotiations with God about the matter. God was not sure as it had never been done before and He did not want to set a precedent. Finally, after long talks, God reluctantly agreed to allow him to bring his wealth to heaven. Just a few days before he died, the rich man converted all his money into gold bullion. He died and the funeral home made sure that the suitcases containing the gold bullion went with him. He arrived at the Pearly Gates with his suitcases and there was Peter. Peter told him he could not bring the suitcases into heaven. But the man said he had already spoken to God, and He had said it was OK. So, Peter got on the God phone, and sure enough it was true. Peter was curious as to what was so valuable that the man wanted to bring it into heaven. So he asked, "Could I look in the suitcases?" The man opened the suitcases and Peter exclaimed, "Why are you bringing pavement to heaven!"
