Continuation and improvement of the NRT system for the remotely sensed data

Emanuele Böhm and Roberto Sciarra

• Task 1.1 SST, color, new pars, scat data

– Subtask 1.1.1 SST increase # of passes/sat

– Subtask 1.1.2 OC archive of final products

Task 1.1

• Reprocess Adricosm color data (1.1.2)• Reprocess SST for atmospheric studies (1.1.3)• New OC-derived parameters (1.1.2)• Scatterometer data for meteo sensitivity (1.1.3)• Training (1.1.1, 1.1.2)

Example of AREG gridded datawith missing data due to clouds

Available now

Subtask 1.1.1SST

• Increase # of available passes to– Reduce effect of cloud cover– Resolve diurnal SST cycle– Involve partners in definition of new SST

products (training @ CNR.ISAC)

Subtask 1.1.2Ocean Color

• SeaWiFS phasing out

• MODIS coming online

• Case I/II water masks

• Water clarity (K490)

• Full resolution files in addition to AREG

• Involvement and training of entering countries

Subtask 1.1.3Satellite data product for meteorological sensitivity studies

• Day and night SST for daily cycle depiction

• Quikscat data for surface windfield

• Obtain feedback from modelers to optimize products

Example of OI SST that will replace the AREG data with gaps

Available soon

K(490) is the diffuse attenuation coefficient of seawater at 490 nm. It indicates the turbidity of the water column, how visible light in the blue-green region of the spectrum penetrates within the water column. It is directly related to the presence of scattering particles in the water column.

K(490)=(z90)-1 m-1

MODIS algorithm estimate K(490), from the blue-to-green band ratio of water-leaving radiance

Figura 3: Sun-glint.
