Our commitment is to empower skills, confidence and knowledge for those who teach, guide and educate. ____________________________________________________________ The word most commonly applied to sum up 2020-2021 is unprecedented. The greatest certainty has been uncertainty as we continue to navigate the complexities of working, living and learning during a global pandemic. And while the pandemic has challenged our families and our communities, it has also served as a catalyst for finding new ways of communicating, connecting and collaborating. This is characterized by our global science community’s rapid mobilization to develop a vaccine and the global learning community’s accelerated adoption of technology to adapt teaching and learning to online environments. We are proud of, and greatly encouraged by, the actions of our education community in this incredibly challenging period. Even as they were adapting to an ever-evolving teaching and learning environment, our educators raised awareness and concern about evidence of widening inequities, relentlessly promoted inclusive pedagogical practice, nurtured social-emotional learning and committed to improving and advancing our research, teaching and learning practices. This Annual Review 2020-2021 provides a summary of OISE CPL performance indicators in relation to five key performance indicators:

Sustainable Development Goals A FRAMEWORK FOR INSPIRING PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Universities are said to have two roles: to serve today’s society, and to challenge society to shape a better future. Our collective aspiration to build a better world is what fundamentally motivates teaching, learning and research goals at OISE, University of Toronto. In December 2020, following a couple of years of operational review, professional reflection and engagement with external education and industry leaders, OISE CPL was delighted to collaborate internally with UofT’s International Office and Research, Innovation and Strategic Initiatives Office. The goal was to facilitate a tri-campus conversation exploring how the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) offer our research and teaching community a framework for orienting ourselves and inspiring opportunities for professional collaboration and partnership locally, nationally and internationally. Our 2020 Fall Term launched with a virtual team conversation about Building Better, exploring personal and professional wellbeing, professional learning goals and opportunities for improvement. Our extended team of professionals from across K-12, Post-Secondary, Workplace Learning, and Human Services, identified diversity, equity and inclusion as critical areas of focus, as well as the importance of embedding global competencies within learning experiences, learning and embracing new digital tools and technological advancements and using the digital sphere to build learning communities.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ InnovED is OISE’s campus-linked accelerator (CLA) and first University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE) member committed to education entrepreneurship initiatives. InnovED is comprised of educators driven to guide, teach, serve and lead within systems and sectors that are experiencing unprecedented change. What binds the community is a deep commitment to improving societies through the work of education. In 2020-2021, InnovED developed and launched its Innovation in Action program virtually, established its online learning community presence, ran focus groups, surveyed members to determine their needs and initiated collaborations with UofT’s Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Office (ARCDO) and AODA Office in order to review and determine how best to design, develop and deliver an inclusive CLA experience.

On Sunday April 18, 2021, our dear colleague, mentor, and friend, Evelyn Wilson passed away peacefully at home with her family. Evelyn’s commitment to education and to educators inspired many to pursue an education path as their chosen profession. Her energy was unparalleled. Her pragmatism was at times hilarious and always so appreciated. Her style and flair were simply fantastic. And her pride in our team and of our work never wavered – she was our greatest cheerleader. She is dearly missed.
