FROM CHAOS TO CREATIVITY: DESIGNING FROM COMPLEXITY

WITH REGENERATIVE AND WHOLE SYSTEMSSarah Queblatin, Green Releaf Initiative

How can we use change as an

opportunity for the new story?

Green Releaf envisions community leaders

who can respond, adapt to, and prevent emergencies or crises

through regenerative and whole systems solutions.

As the twenty-first century unfolds, it is

becoming more and more evident that the

major problems of our time - “energy, the

environment, climate change, food security,

financial security“ cannot be understood in

isolation. They are systemic problems,

which means that they are all

interconnected and interdependent.

Ultimately, these problems must be seen as

just different facets of one single crisis,

which is largely a crisis of perception. It

derives from the fact that most people in

our modern society, and especially our

large social institutions, subscribe to the

concepts of an outdated worldview, a

perception of reality inadequate for

dealing with our overpopulated, globally

interconnected world.

- Fritjof Capra, The Systems View of Life:

A Unifying Vision

“Design is where art and science meet. In fact, it integrates information from

almost all the disciplines into which we have separated human knowing and

doing. Design is how we can acknowledge the influences of the past and give

birth to visions of a different future.” - Daniel Christian Wahl

“Learning how to apply a regenerative

approach begins not with a change of

techniques but rather with a change of mind—

a new way of thinking about how we plan,

design, construct, and operate our built

environment.”

- Haggard B, Reed B, Mang P (2006) Regenerative development.

Revitalization March/AprilDesign is where art and science meet. In fact, it integrates information from almost all the disciplines into

the past and give birth to visions of a different future. - Daniel Christian Waal (Daniel Christian Wahl; Regenesis Group)_

“When you think of it, Indigenous peoples possess the biggest

book..... Because our book is the whole world. We read the forest,

the wind, the clouds. It is the biggest book.”

The Great Turning

(Joanna Macy)

“The ability to shift from reacting against the

past to leaning into and presencing an emerging

future is probably the single most important

leadership capacity today.”

—Otto Scharmer
