DOCUMENTATION OF CHOICE OF TAGLINE

By Lisa Begum

What is a tagline?

A tagline is a small text that tends to clarify a thought, the main reason behind it is so that it gives the audience a memorable dramatic phrase that they will remember this helps sum up the films narrative in a sort of way.

It is very important that a tagline is effective as this helps give the audience an insight about what the film may be about and if it sounds scary or powerful it would make the audience want to go and watch the film for themselves.

Researching different taglines- Slasher horror

Nightmare on elm street- Sleep kills Prom night-They're too old for games, but

someone still wants to play. Friday 13th- You may only see it once, but that

will be enough. Jeepers creepers- They were alone in the middle

of nowhere. It's watching. It's waiting. It's hungry. Psycho- Don't give away the ending - it's the only

one we have!

Researching teen horror taglines

Cabin fever- Terror.. In the flesh Scream-Don't Answer The Phone. Don't

Open The Door. Don't Try To Escape. I know what you did last summer- If

you're going to bury the truth, make sure it stays buried.

Halloween- Trick or treat... or die Final destination- Face Your Deepest

Fears... Before They Face You.

Choosing a tagline For our tagline we wanted it to be linked to the idea that the

teenage girl goes looking for her father and how she comes to find out that the serial killer who wants to kill all her friends and herself is her step-brother, as he is jealous of that fact that after their father passed away he gave away his business and money to his daughter and as the step brother is annoyed with this; it leads to him having a mental illnesses and reasons to want to kill people who enter as he wants everything to himself.

As I looked at several slasher horror and teen horror taglines this helped me understand what sort of tagline we should have. We didn't want a short bold one as they seem like they don't build tension to the audience. Therefore we wanted one were it sounded good and also kept the audience thinking when they first hear it.

Our tagline “You never know your true blood...Until your true blood comes

for you.” The reason why we chose this as our tag line was because we

thought the audience can take it in two ways. One way could be that they may think that the killer is her father

and that she wouldn't know who he is until he wants to kill her. Or that there could be a twist were the teenage girl (protagonist)

is the one with the issues and may kill people. But the actual meaning behind this tagline is that the girl isn't

aware of her ‘brother’ but when she goes to the address they arrive at she comes to know who her ‘blood’ is and why her ‘step-brother’ wants to kill people, and that her true blood which is her father left her with all of his businesses and wealth before dying.
