Economic CalendarFor Traders and Investors

The economic calendar provides a schedule of the most important global economic events released during the day, allowing you to make informed decisions when trading.

As a trader, it is important that you monitor the economic calendar on a daily basis in order to track the most important events which are likely to move markets and create volatility.

Economic calendars featurethe time of event, country, importance, previous result, analysts forecast and actual result.

Among other important eventsinvestors pay close attention to events such as interest rate decisions, gross domestic product figures, consumer price inflation numbers, as well as data on employment, housing and manufacturing.

The most-closely followedeconomic indicator in the global financial markets is the release of the monthly U.S. nonfarm payrolls report, due on the first Friday of each month.

Trading the nonfarm payrollsdata can be extremely eventful, as it causes the largest market movements of any news announcement in the Forex, Commodity and Stock markets. Notice the sharp price action in EUR/USD and Gold futures following the immediate aftermath of the payrolls data.

Speechesmade by world political leaders, such as U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, are closely-watched, as are comments by global central bank officials, especially Federal Reserve members and European Central Bank policymakers. Below you can see the sudden drop in EUR/USD and the DAX during comments made by ECB President Mario Draghi.

Good/Bad data themeIn recent months, positive economic data is viewed by financial markets as “bad news” because it strengthens the case for central banks to reduce stimulus and tighten policy.Vice versa, negative economic data is viewed as “good news” because it signals central banks will keep monetary policy looser for a longer period.
