Restoration -A

The Olmsted Park in Boston a Brookline, Massa-

chusetts, was an original Frederick Law Olmsted

Design. A century ago, there were expansive pasto-

ral views, a classic promenade and “a chain of pic-

turesque fresh-water ponds, alternating with at-

tractive natural groves and meads.” Since then, the

park has fallen into disrepair. The present project

has the goal to restore Olmsted views for the park

while designing for 21st century needs.

Restores historical fresh-

water ponds, pastoral expanse

and views, as well as smooth

transitions in between spaces.

The new design will allow

for environmental education

programs to be carried at the

park.

The project identified destinations

that contained resources on dinosaur

history and footprint geology. One

of them is the Great Falls Discovery

Center illustrated below.

The Connecticut River Valley

is a hot spot for dinosaur

footprints thanks to its bedrock

geology. A trail that connects

dinosaur print resources along

the valley was envisioned.

Elements that tie the trail

together are important to keep

visitors engaged and provide

context to an amazing story.

Downtown is in need of

expansion. Residents also

struggle with the lack of

housing options available.

This proposal for a

residual plot, neighboring

downtown Amherst,

combines housing, places

for business to thrive

and spaces to entertain

Amherst residents and

visitors alike.fig. 8. amphitheater and entertainment plaza

Providing an integrated user experience was

the main goal of this project. Working with

an architecture student, my group ensured

we created smooth transitions in between

buildings and the landscape. Here you can

see a contemplative path mounded to access

a roof plaza. fig. 11. seasonal planting schedule

As a post-industrial city struggling to recover its’ economy,

Springfield, MA displays a plethora of opportunities for

citizens and students to engage and revitalize residual

spaces. This project had the goal to enliven a forgotten

alley with the help of local students. A ribbon curtain was

envisioned and created and residents enjoyed a bit of color

amongst a grey downtown.

Earthships are radically

sustainable houses that are

designed to be 100% off-

grid. Joining the concept

of Cohousing, a type of

intentional community, and

Earthships, I envisioned a

progressive neighborhood

to take place in Western

Massachusetts and serve as its’

first off-grid neighborhood.
